Fatphobia, until when?
Hello friends, I come to this space with the desire to shout ENOUGH!!!, since I can remember, all my life I have received comments about my weight and appearance, and it seems that nowadays people who see me can't think of any topic to talk about other than "diet", or that such and such a thing makes you lose weight, and I'm tired of that.
I really try not to pay much attention, or not to explain that I have such a disease, or that I really do my best to take care of myself, I think that at this point in my life I should not be justifying myself by my appearance, but I feel that these comments open childhood wounds that I have not been able to heal, because as I mentioned above, since I was very small I always heard talk of whether to do such a diet, that if maritime is fat, that the clothes, do not eat this, and it's funny but now I see my pictures of that time and I say: how cruel were those adults with this girl, how could they do this to her? I really don't see a bit of overweight in her.
And not to mention my adolescence, how absurd to spend years feeling the ugly of the group of "friends" for being the one who was "fat", today I look at pictures and I realize, without being exaggerated, that they were the ugly ones, but I was so pretty!!! I do not want to be conceited but I always had a pretty face, my hair was long and beautiful, and my body was curvaceous, literally, I was not fat! What a rage that word gives me seriously.....
Today the trigger was activated by a person who is exasperating me too much, I am impressed how a woman, who by the way is also fat, comes to me with a comment like: "ah but that's good, so you reduce faster", I remained silent, an uncomfortable silence so that she realized that I did not like her comment, she tried to compensate by saying that it is for health, but I did not respond and immediately withdrew, I really do not want to argue or justify myself, I think the first thing I should do to deal with that kind of person is to remove the power to diminish or make me feel less for not being a top model.
Something I have thought is that at least that "physical defect" that everyone sees in me has a solution, maybe with many things together I could lose a lot of weight, but I have something that those people don't have, and that with diet you can't get, for example having a good heart, love, intelligence, a pretty face hahaha, and here between us, there are no diets to be taller or tall, so I'm sorry for those who criticize me for the only thing I have that also eating lettuce solves it (it's a joke). You can't be perfect in everything!!! hahaha, ok I got funny, but I must take this with good humor.
Now almost to finish this catharsis, let's talk about fatphobia, I don't know how it is defined or what it implies, but it sounds like there are many people, seriously many, who dislike in an exaggerated way to see another human being with overweight, they focus on offending and by any means harming anyone they see with those characteristics, I have had to deal with countless people like that, I remember a coworker who told me she could not stand to see me, I also remember being compared to a hippopotamus, pig and things like that.
But why people are fat-phobic, it seems to me that it is because we are used to a certain canon of beauty, and today with the fashion of healthy, in many cases hide fat-phobic phrases with the excuse that it is for health, or that being overweight causes other chronic diseases. We fat people already know that, believe me we know it, we live with the effects of being overweight, and every day is a fight against ourselves, it is not necessary that others, who think they own the lives of others remind us every moment, it is as if I approached a certain person and said "what an ugly face you have, you should put on makeup or have plastic surgery" surely that person knows that he/she doesn't have the most beautiful face according to beauty standards, he/she looks every day in the mirror and doesn't like it, and the worst thing is that there is no diet for that, hahaha (bad joke).
In conclusion, enough of fatphobia, of wanting to live judging the life or appearance of others, everyone has enough with the thousands of problems and challenges of life so that others get involved in reminding us every time they see us that we are overweight, if an overweight person decides to make a life change, just because, we have to encourage him, tell him: you can do it! You are beautiful! and please don't, seriously don't scold or judge that person if you see him or her eating a sweet, maybe that is their reward after days, weeks or even months of struggle.
And for the record, this is not a post where I encourage a life of excess or gluttony, I myself am in a years long struggle to treat metabolic syndrome of polycystic ovaries, I have won many battles but I still have a long way to go, I just want to express my displeasure, vent and move forward so this does not take away my peace and self love.
