Excursión al "Salto La Paila" | Caripe - Monagas [ESP-ENG]

En mi viaje a Caripe del año pasado junto con los amigos de Hive Monagas pudimos visitar no solo el Monumento Natural Alejandro de Humboldt del cual ya les hablé anteriormente sino que también nos fuimos de excursión al Salto “La Paila” del cual no tenía conocimiento sino hasta ese momento y el día del hoy les quiero compartir mi experiencia.
El Salto “La Paila” es tan solo una de las tantas atracciones turísticas que Caripe tiene para ofrecer, para poder llegar a este se debe atravesar un sendero boscoso que nos lleva directamente a nuestro destino que está justo al final del camino. De un lado tenemos el Monumento Natural “Alejandro de Humboldt” donde se ubica la famosa Cueva del Guácharo mientras que del otro lado del camino podemos encontrar un letrero con el nombre de este maravilloso espacio que es considerado Parque Nacional el cual está constituido por 72.600 Ha y el posee la reserva de agua más grande del estado Monagas llamado Chorrerón de Sabana de Piedra que consta de 106 m de altura, además de El Salto La Paila que es el que visitamos en esa ocasión.
On my trip to Caripe last year together with the friends of Hive Monagas we were able to visit not only the Alejandro de Humboldt Natural Monument which I already told you about before but we also went on an excursion . to “La Paila” Falls of which I had no knowledge until that moment and today I want to share my experience with you.
The “La Paila” Falls is just one of the many tourist attractions that Caripe has to offer, in order to get to it you must cross a forested path that takes us directly to our destination, which is right . at the end of the road. On one side we have the Natural Monument “Alejandro de Humboldt” where the famous Cueva del Guácharo is located while on the other side of the road we can find a sign with the name of this wonderful space that is considered National Park which is made up of 72,600 Ha and has the largest water reserve in the state of Monagas called Chorrerón de Sabana de Piedra which is 106 m high, in addition to El Salto La Paila which is the one we visited on that occasion.
Obviamente no es una travesía que podamos hacer por nuestra cuenta sino que se necesita de la ayuda de un guía o guardaparques, así que luego de prepararnos la encargada de nuestro recorrido nos dio una pequeña charla, con algo de información sobre el lugar y un par de recomendaciones útiles para el camino. Parte de la información suministrada por el personal es sobre el recorrido, que en total tiene una distancia de 1200 m y una duración de unos 45 minutos aproximadamente, es decir, una hora y media entre ir y regresar. Algunas sugerencias fueron mirar siempre al suelo, tener cuidado donde pisamos y de ser necesario parar por un descanso si no estamos en las condiciones físicas adecuadas, pues, hay un punto en el que el trayecto se tornaría mas difícil porque es únicamente de subida y ya al estar en ese punto no habría vuelta atrás. Teniendo en mente estas “advertencias” o recomendaciones y lo que nos encontraríamos en el camino dimos inicio al recorrido, con mucho entusiasmo pero a la vez algo de nervios.
Obviously it is not a journey that we can do on our own but requires the help of a guide or park ranger, so after preparing us, the person in charge of our tour gave us a short talk, with some information about the place and a couple of useful recommendations for the road. Part of the information provided by the staff is about the route, which in total has a distance of 1,200 m and a duration of approximately 45 minutes, that is, an hour and a half between going and returning. Some suggestions were to always look at the ground, be careful where we step and if necessary stop for a break if we are not in adequate physical condition, well, there is a point at which the route would become more difficult because it is only uphill and now At that point there would be no turning back. Keeping in mind these “warnings” or recommendations and what we would find along the way, we began the tour, with great enthusiasm but at the same time a little nervous.
Comenzamos a caminar de manera ordenada uno detrás de otro, éramos poco más de 20 personas así que la fila era un tanto larga. Gran parte del recorrido es plano, por lo que no fue problema avanzar y a medida que lo hacíamos podíamos sentir como nos adentrábamos cada vez más en ese entorno boscoso, observando toda la vegetación a nuestro alrededor y los increíbles sonidos de la naturaleza, lo que hizo que toda la travesía fuera una gran experiencia.
We began to walk in an orderly manner one after the other, there were just over 20 people so the line was a bit long. Much of the route is flat, so it was not a problem to move forward and as we did so we could feel ourselves going deeper and deeper into that wooded environment, observing all the vegetation around us and the incredible sounds of nature, which made that the whole journey was a great experience.
Parte de lo que pude observar en el recorrido es que había zonas con bancos y churuatas, pero estos lucían bastante abandonados además de cubiertas de musgo. A un lado del camino pasaba una pequeña corriente de agua que podíamos no solo observar sino también escuchar durante todo el trayecto y esta provenía directamente de la cascada a la que nos dirigíamos.
Part of what I was able to observe on the tour is that there were areas with benches and churuatas, but these looked quite abandoned and were covered in moss. On one side of the road there was a small stream of water that we could not only observe but also hear throughout the journey and this came directly from the waterfall we were heading to.
En el camino nos encontramos a muchas personas que venían de regreso y mientras más avanzábamos más estrecho se hacia el camino, así que varias veces tuvimos que detenernos para dar paso a los demás.
On the way we met many people who were coming back and the further we went, the narrower the road became, so several times we had to stop to give way to others.
Parte de la vegetación que conforma esta zona son enormes árboles de Cacao de montaña, un fruto que en aspecto es muy similar al cacao común pero que no es apto para el consumo humano, sin embargo, es el mejor alimento que tienen los animales que allí hacen vida.
Part of the vegetation that makes up this area are enormous Mountain Cocoa trees, a fruit that in appearance is very similar to common cocoa but is not suitable for human consumption, however, it is the best food they have the animals that live there.
Luego de un rato de caminata llegamos a la parte más difícil del camino, pues, a partir de allí el camino era en subida y según recuerdo eran unos 90 escalones, pero además, justo en ese punto contábamos con una pared de enormes rocas de la cual podíamos sujetarnos para poder subir, esta fue una de las recomendaciones de nuestra guía al igual que llevar un paso lento y cuidadoso porque los escalones eran resbalosos y efectivamente lo eran, muchos estuvimos a punto de caer varias veces.
After a while of walking we reached the most difficult part of the path, well, from there the path was uphill and as I remember there were about 90 steps, but also, right at that point we had a wall of enormous rocks of the which we could hold on to be able to climb, this was one of the recommendations of our guide as well as taking a slow and careful step because the steps were slippery and indeed they were, many of us were on the verge of falling several times.
Mientras más subíamos más se escuchaba la caída de agua de la cascada, indicándonos que estábamos muy cerca. Cuando finalmente subimos el último escalón llegamos a nuestro anhelado destino, el majestuoso Salto “La Paila”.
The further we went up, the more we could hear the fall of water from the waterfall, indicating to us that we were very close. When we finally climb the last step we arrive at our long-awaited destination, the majestic Salto “La Paila”.
Esta hermosa cascada natural cuenta con una especie de enorme pared rocosa de unos 45 metros de altura por donde corren sus aguas de unos 14° de temperatura aproximadamente donde los visitantes pueden bañarse, si se atreven. A su vez el agua corre por un canal que pasa a un lado del camino cuando hacemos el recorrido hasta llegar al principio de este.
This beautiful natural waterfall has a kind of enormous rock wall about 45 meters high through which its waters of approximately 14° temperature flow where visitors can bathe, if they dare. In turn, the water runs through a channel that passes on one side of the path when we make the journey until we reach the beginning of it.
Llegar a la propia caída de agua es bastante complicado, hay muchas rocas tanto grandes como pequeñas que dificultan el camino hacia la cascada pero no es imposible llegar, cuando llegamos ya habían varias personas con otro guía, muchos se estaban bañando en las heladas aguas pero yo solo me dediqué a ver, admirar y fotografiar el lugar, no obstante me acerqué al canal por donde corre el agua para poder sentirla con mis propias manos y refrescarme un poco y con eso pude comprobar que el agua realmente estaba muy muy fría.
Getting to the waterfall itself is quite complicated, there are many rocks both large and small that make the path to the waterfall difficult but it is not impossible to get there, when we arrived there were already several people with another guide, many were bathing in the icy waters but I only dedicated myself to seeing, admiring and photographing the place, however I approached the channel through which the water flows so I could feel it with my own hands and cool off a little and with that I was able to verify that the water was really very very cold.
Fue una experiencia sin duda maravillosa e increíble, el camino de regreso fue un poco más fácil, tal vez porque ya lo habíamos recorrido, algunos cayeron en el camino pero al parecer era parte de la experiencia. Llegamos bastante cansados luego de hacer el recorrido pero también bastante felices de haber conocido ese lugar y haber vivido esa aventura. Por mi parte no solo disfruté de todo el viaje, el recorrido, conocer nuevos lugares y hacer un poco de turismo sino que también me quedaron muchísimas fotos de esa experiencia para recordar y por supuesto compartir con ustedes.
It was undoubtedly a wonderful and incredible experience, the way back was a little easier, perhaps because we had already traveled it, some fell along the way but apparently it was part of the experience. We arrived quite tired after doing the tour but also quite happy to have known that place and to have lived that adventure. For my part, I not only enjoyed the entire trip, the tour, seeing new places and doing a little sightseeing, but I also had many photos of that experience to remember and of course share with you.
