Since 1993, World Water Day is celebrated every March 22nd; once it was decreed in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro; and the main objective of this celebration is not to have a party, but to raise awareness about the importance of taking care of the vital liquid, so that the life of human beings and species on earth can be perpetuated, because without water it is impossible to survive.

Desde el año 1993, se celebra El Día Mundial del Agua cada 22 de marzo; una vez que fue decretado en el año 1992 en la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Medio Ambiente y el Desarrollo llevada a cabo en Río de Janeiro; y el objetivo principal de esa celebración no es hacer una fiesta, sino crear conciencia sobre la relevancia de cuidar el vital líquido, a fin de que pueda perpetuarse la vida de los seres humanos y las especies en la tierra, porque sin agua es imposible sobrevivir.

Recordar siempre y en todos nuestros actos la importancia de este líquido esencial. Es importante señalar que existen países como Venezuela bendecido por la naturaleza que cuenta con grandes ríos, manantiales, lagos, humedales para el abastecimiento de agua dulce, sin embargo algunos estudios han determinado que en el mundo mas o menos dos mil doscientos millones de personas no tienen acceso a agua potable y deben subsistir con aguas recicladas lo que no es saludable, pero si necesario.
Existe una necesidad urgente de que todos los seres humanos nos concienciemos sobre el cuidado que debemos darle a nuestras fuentes hídricas a fin de que continúen siendo sustento para el consumo de seres humanos, plantas y vegetales. En los últimos meses se ha oído hablar de las aguas subterráneas, aguas que son invisibles a los ojos del hombre pero que existen y deben ser estudiadas y preparadas para poder darle uso; y su protección va a permitir que sobrevivamos a los diversos cambios climáticos, en Venezuela producidos en la Fosa de Cariaco Ver.

Estamos en una población en constante crecimiento y depende de nuestro proceder y del correcto uso, cuidado y preservación para que podamos continuar disfrutando de esas fuentes hídricas de las que nos dotó la naturaleza y de su justa distribución. En este pueblo donde tuve la dicha de nacer, crecer y aún vivir poseemos hermosos ríos, caños, manantiales, hermosos afluentes de agua dulce a los cuales debemos prestarles mucha atención, son muchos los atropellos que reciben ante la mirada despreocupada de muchos, la tala indiscriminada, la quema y la basura son los principales contaminantes y con ello la muerte de algunos.
No podemos esperar cada 22 de marzo para recordar el compromiso que tenemos con nuestro planeta y el cuidado y protección de nuestras aguas dulces, es necesario que unamos voluntades y demostremos que los buenos somos mas, no toleremos mas maltratos en nuestras aguas, sin ella no podríamos vivir sanos y saludables.
