Many people believe that everything that happens to them, whether good or bad, has already been determined by a kind of superior force. John Calvin, a religious reformer of the 16th century, wrote: "We call God's eternal decree petition, by which he has determined what he wants to do with each man. For He does not create them all on the same condition, but He ordains some for eternal life, and others for perpetual condemnation. End of quote.
But is it really God who decides beforehand our actions and final destiny? What does the Bible really teach? Some people who believe in predestination reason as follows: God is omniscient, that is, he knows everything, even what is going to happen in the near future; he knows what each human being will do with his life, and the exact form and timing of his death. According to them, when someone has to make a decision, he inevitably decides what God has already foreseen and predetermined; otherwise, God would not be all-knowing. Surprising, isn't it?
