Good ol' eric, do you remember eric? The once bubbly child, who had unique hobbies and a unique personality. He always tried to see the good in people, but he had always a hard time trying to relate with his peers. Starting highschool, it seems like Eric was overwhelemed with the sudden changes and he had a hard time adjusting. He had been bullied a few times and no one seems to want to stand up to him. Eric then became heartless, always angry, bitter, and anxious. I know eric, because he was once a fragment of me.
Sad to see how happy individuals psychological state deteriorate into the dark abyss because of bullying. The psyche of each human is wired differently. Some come out of bullying becoming stronger than they was once before, unfazed by negativity. Some come out broken, hurt, anxious and becoming a completely different person. In extreme cases, some just off themselves because they believe that life is not going to get any better. Honestly, f'ck bullying. Surviving in this world is hard enough as it is, we shouldn't even need to worry about this. Its moments like this that makes you lose hope that humanity is going to get even better. With the invention of social media, it seems that bullying is even worse. People get posted without consent and being made fun of. Luckily, mental health issues are now being recognized more because of social media and they also shared tips on how to prevent cyberbullying.
First of all things, establish a communication with the person getting bullied. It's important to build trust in order to get them to open up to you. Once they see that you are friendly to them, they will feel a sense of relief and be calmer around you, getting to open up in the end. Next is, give them strategies to respond. Give them tips on how to counter the bullying they are experiencing. Nothing better than to respond with kindness and making the other person feel bad for their actions. Lastly is emphasive positivity. As a teacher you could give the bullies and victims activities, so they can try to see each other from a different perspective. Bullying is not nice and should be stopped in this generations so that we may be able to have a peace of mind and enjoy life without ever doubting ourself.
