"驴Debo hablar o escuchar?"
Me obliga a reevaluar mis propias prioridades.
驴Amar m谩s? 驴Perdonar m谩s r谩pido?
A veces es dif铆cil encontrar esa persona.
No est谩s solo.

The Medicine of Presence | ORIGINAL REFLECTION BY MARABUZAL (ESP-ENG)
Greetings, Holos Lotus!!!
Wishing all members of this #community health, prosperity, and personal growth!!!!
"Should I speak or listen?"
I asked my friend this afternoon when he told me the most terrible thing: someone had been in his house and threatened him with death. A misunderstanding over something stupid, a grocery purchase gone wrong.
These times and their violence.
The moment I asked myself that question, "should I speak or listen?", I took the first and most crucial step towards my own growth: conscious empathy.
I didn't react impulsively, but instead stopped to consider what kind of support my friend truly needed in his moment of greatest vulnerability.
That pause, that space between his pain and my response, became the fertile ground where my compassion ceased to be a concept and became an action.
Whatever I chose, the mere fact of having considered it showed me an emotional maturity I didn't know I possessed.
In such extreme circumstances, my instinct was to want to "fix" things immediately. To look for solutions, call the police, give advice. But I understood that, sometimes, the solution is not the first remedy a wounded person needs.
My friend was recounting an event and at the same time trying to process an emotional earthquake. Fear, the violation of his safe space, helplessness, and confusion were swirling in his chest, and I was a witness to that turmoil.
By choosing to listen first, I offered him salvation. I gave him permission to vent that torrent of emotions without judgment, without interruption. I was telling him with my active silence: "Your experience is valid and deserves to be fully heard." I learned that active listening is not a passive act.
It is a labor of love that requires me to silence my own mind, my own anxieties and solutions, to immerse myself in the emotional universe of the other.
As I listened to him, I felt a wave of helplessness. Wanting to protect someone I love and not being able to is one of the most heartbreaking feelings.
This helplessness became, for me, an unexpected teacher. It taught me that I cannot control what happens to others, but I can control how I respond. My conscious presence became my greatest power in the midst of that storm.
This event, however terrible, has become a turning point not only for him, but also for me. It confronts me with the fragility of life and the absurdity of violence over "a stupid thing." It forces me to re-evaluate my own priorities.
Suddenly, my small daily worries pale in comparison to the overwhelming evidence that the only thing that truly matters is the well-being of those I love.
For me, as his support, growth lies in learning the art of accompanying without directing. I understand that sometimes the best help is simply holding a hand in the darkness, without trying to shine an artificial light that denies the depth of his sorrow.
There came a moment, after listening, when my friend looked me in the eyes and asked, "And now what?" At that moment, I knew my voice could be a light. Speaking then became for me an act of construction. These weren't words to minimize his pain, but to help him chart the next step, always asking, never imposing.
This experience is also teaching me about my own limitations. I recognize that, however much I want to, I cannot carry all his pain. My role is to be a bridge, not the final destination of his healing.
My personal growth stems from accepting my human limitations. Accepting that I don't have all the answers is an act of humility that, paradoxically, strengthens me.
I observe my own emotions: anger towards the aggressors, frustration at the injustice. I accept them. They are proof of my humanity. But I must not allow them to cloud my judgment when it comes to supporting him.
This situation shows me once again that the world can be a chaotic place. My growth doesn't consist of denying this chaos, but in learning to dance in the rain, even when it's thundering.
The "misunderstanding" he told me about symbolizes for me how the mundane can, in an instant, turn into a nightmare. It teaches me not to take peace or security for granted.
I can point out his bravery in telling me, his courage in continuing to breathe. In doing so, I also remember my own.
I feel that this experience is deepening our friendship in an irreversible way. We have faced an abyss together, and that creates a bond that superficial conversations could never forge.
I'm learning the difference between sympathy (feeling sorry for someone) and empathy (feeling with someone). The first creates distance, the second connects, and I choose to connect.
I feel the temptation to overprotect him in the future. My growth will lie in finding the balance between healthy support and allowing him to regain his autonomy. This experience is changing the way I see conflicts.
It will make me more cautious, but also more compassionate toward the pain of others.
As a witness to his process, I can encourage him to be patient with himself. Healing doesn't have a predetermined timeline.
This Saturday afternoon has confronted me with my own mortality and that of my loved ones. It's uncomfortable, but this confrontation is what gives authentic meaning to daily choices.
To love more? To forgive more quickly? To express gratitude more often? The shadow of loss teaches me to live with more intention. By supporting my friend, I am sowing seeds of faith in the goodness of the world, which at times like this seems to have been completely eclipsed.
And to be a good support, I also need support. I'm not afraid to seek out someone with whom to vent my own emotions.
Sometimes it's difficult to find that person.
Growth isn't linear. There will be days when he takes a step back, overwhelmed by fear. My consistency will be his anchor. But he's not alone.
This experience is teaching me that my most powerful words are sometimes not those of brilliant advice, but the simplest ones: "I'm here. You're not alone. We'll get through this."
There's nothing like taking it one day at a time, and in time, when my friend looks back, perhaps he won't just see the memory of a threat, but the power of a friendship he chose, in his darkest moment, and I chose for him the simple and profound medicine of being present.
