Denizli was founded by Syrian king Antiochus in 261 BC. Antiokhos named this city, the name of his wife, Laodikeia. The Denizli city was conquered by the Byzantine empire in the following century.
After 1070, Turks started to settle in Denizli city. And in 1071 Denizli was conquered by the Seljuk State. But Byzantine state attacked Denizli and conquered Denizli again. For many years, the city has changed hands between Seljuk and Byzantium. During this time many buildings in the city of Denizli have been destroyed and many damage have occurred in the city.
Denizli, which changed hands between the Turkish principalities and the Byzantine empire until 1429, was finally conquered by the Ottoman Empire. The fact that Denizli is such a prestigious city is why it has big fields for agriculture. Today, Denizli is not only an agricultural city but also an important textile city.
