Hey Actifitters,
We had multiple tornado alerts yesterday but we were kind of lucky and only had really strong winds but no real damage. Many people in the area weren't so lucky, and I believe that one day later still 250k people in Metro Detroit are without power. After the worst part, it was just rain and we saw deer probably looking for shelter in our yard. It's a bit blurry because at first I stayed behind the windows to not bother them. Then after a while, I tried to very slowly go on the deck, but that was enough to scare them and they all fled. Unfortunately the poor little one wasn't too sure about jumping over the fence and stayed there not knowing what to do. It seemed almost panicked so I went to open the gate for it, but that really scared it and it managed to jump over the fence, going in the wrong direction though, away from the mother and probably its slightly bigger sibling. I hope they reunited soon after.
When the rain slowed down, Kaia and Le Chat went to check the perimeter. All gone, it's safe!
Le Chat was extra thorough, verifying every inch square of the yard. No intruder will go through her!
A little later, we went in the neighborhood, to check for any damage, and again it wasn't so bad, just a few branches and lots of leaves of course. Like I said, we were lucky.
And it was time to finally check our forest again without the hornets nest! Finally open for us again!
I inspected the area, there were a few of these left, but they seemed mostly dead or at least very slow to move, probably affected by whatever chemical was sprayed after the nest removal. I guess they do look like bald faced hornets, which are technically a sort of yellowjacket wasp. I don't know anything about these stinging things, just that they scare me, and I'm always worried Kaia would get swarmed.
I found some of these too, they look a bit different I think.
When we went a bit further in the neighborhood, we saw signs of the sun in the distance. Unfortunately too far, and too short anyways, as more rain and thunder were on the way.
One last quick stop in our reclaimed forest, and we were done for the day.
Well, still not a very active day, but maybe with the entrance to our forest now fully open and safe again, we might pick up the activity a bit, but not sure, so many things to do...
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
