Hey Actifitters,

With a very sunny day in the forecast, we had planned to visit a park this Sunday, and to make it easy we decided it'd be Kensington Metropark again. For once, we were ready to go somewhat early in the afternoon. Seems Le Chat wanted to join, but unfortunately she had to stay behind.

alt

For a change, we didn't park after the bridge, and stayed at one of the first parking lots, near Martindale Beach. It's close to the best sunset spots and of course allows access to the lake right away.

alt

Beautiful fall foliage colors aren't bad either.

alt

The seagulls were there to greet us at their usual meeting spot. Normally it's where the small school sailing boats are, but they're all already stashed for the winter of course.

alt

Not many people at the East boat launch either, although we did see one person later taking his boat out of the water. We went on one of these pontoon bridges but Kaia wasn't a fan, she definitely prefers more stable ground.

alt

We didn't have enough time for the whole loop around the lake, not to mention I didn't want Kaia to walk that much. So the plan was to start in the opposite direction as the last few times, it's the part we don't go very often. Well, no luck, after just a few minutes, we found a roadblock. The boardwalk a little further is apparently under repair.

alt

So we turned around and started on the other direction (the other choice was to drive and park somewhere else). I was a bit worried because this section is not the most interesting in my opinion. But we did find again some nice colors on the sides of the main path.

alt

And before we knew it, we already found some familiar views. That was faster than I remembered. First one, this painted tree stump. Not sure what that is but it's always a must for Kaia to pose there.

alt

Then, these beautiful meadows and lake views.

alt

alt

We observed the swans show for a moment, it was like a perfectly synchronized dance to catch fishes!

alt

We arrived quickly at the small marina. No boats there of course, everything is in winter mode already. But it was a good spot for a short break and some water.

alt

alt

When we resumed walking, we soon arrived at this bridge and I knew it was soon time to turn around. I didn't want to miss the sunset.

alt

But there was just a couple more views I remembered a few minutes further.

alt

alt

We just walked back the same way, it's a loop, there's not a lot of choices. The plan was of course to go back to the beach and boat launch for the sunset, with a few stops on the way.

alt

I know this is just a simple nature view, without any kind of landmark, but I'll still use this for this week Around The World contest. It does show several Michigan staples: a sunset over a lake (we're the Great Lakes state after all), fall colors and a pontoon bridge. And I just like it!

alt

The sun color started to change and it's so beautiful over the lake.

alt

There's the usual patriotic shot!

alt

And back at the boat launch, we just went wild and couldn't stop snapping photos.

alt

alt

Even a bit dark because of the very bright background, Kaia was a great model as usual.

alt

alt

Our shadows became giants!

alt

That's a sign we should get the last few shots.

alt

alt

alt

And indeed, a few minutes later, the sun started to disappear for the night.

We were done for the day. In the end, it wasn't that long of a walk, about 6 miles overall, but we really enjoyed it. All the photos are proof of it, even after a strong selection, that's still quite a lot included above, sorry about that. This was most likely one of the last fall weekends in this area, we'll soon get ready for real winter (very soon I hope!). So enjoying the outdoors in the sun was the perfect way to spend it.
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
