This test often happens after you are warned about something, or after you claim to be someone of high moral standard, or promise to be a better person... Then you are allowed to be tested while many eyes from the unseen & probably the seen watch you like football players are watched by spectators or like drama actors on stage in a theater. . But in your case you do not see the spectators.
This is to test how willing you are to do what is right regardless of what you face. Most people find it really hard to pass the test. So they remain in their old positions or get outright demotion for "performing" really badly.
If you pass your test you are rewarded and moved to higher position.
Remember, the people ("players" or "actors") like yourself involved in the test are having genuine experiences rather than faking it. But they may be ignorant of the test
