I have always been a mother who encourages her children to be independent in many of their activities, but when it comes to leaving them with strangers, I think twice.
Now my little boy is 9 years old and it is time for me to start the process of detaching him from my side and accepting that he is old enough to stay with familiar people for long periods, that obviously do not exceed staying overnight.
My supervisor's youngest son is having a birthday and she asked me to cover for her at work, and that I could bring Fabrizzio so he could enjoy the party and then she would take care of bringing him back home afterwards. After discussing it with him, he agreed to go without me staying there, which pleasantly surprised me, as unlike his brother, he is not so confident to make such a decision.
So after giving him a thousand recommendations that seem to come from a mother's manual, I took him super excited to the party hall, and to my surprise, he went in to play right away and didn't even say goodbye!!
Now I have mixed emotions, because although I want them to grow and be independent, I already feel like I need to prepare myself for them to enter adolescence in the blink of an eye, while I am still recovering from the process that his older brother is going through.
