Yesterday, while looking for something to entertain myself, I came across this movie in the Netflix catalog. I think the movie is quite old because Dakota Fanning was very young, but I don't know... maybe I was drawn in by the attractive array of colors in the film's cinematography.

Ayer mientras buscaba algo con lo que entretenerme me encontré con esta película en el catalogo de Netflix, creo que la película tiene ya unos buenos años porque Dakota Fanning estaba muy pequeña, pero no sé,. tal vez me dejé llevar por el atractivo compendio de colores de la fotografía de la película.

Sally and Conrad are a pair of siblings who are very different from each other. She is methodical, a perfectionist, almost a miniature adult, and hates mess. Her brother is the complete opposite; he is disorganized and always causing trouble. One day, their mother leaves them home alone, but before leaving, she warns them that she expects them to behave; she doesn't want any mess. However, when their mother leaves, the two children receive a visit from an anthropomorphic cat (with a very unsettling appearance, if I may say so 😄). This cat literally causes chaos in the house, especially when it decides to bring strange creatures from its world. The siblings, completely bewildered, try to stop the chaos because they fear their mother will come home and punish them.

I think the message is quite clear. The film shows us two extremes: rigidity and chaos. Each sibling embodies these elements. Seeing the children's mother, we understand that she's the reason Sally is so restrained, completely forgetting that she's still a child. Her brother, on the other hand, represents idealism, the free spirit that resists being tamed. And the cat is even worse; it's the embodiment of potential chaos, but ultimately serves as an outlet, especially for Sally, a way of understanding that sometimes life needs a little disorder. Rules are important, of course; they exist for a reason. But children should be children; they should have fun, and adults should respect their creativity and spontaneity. It's actually the stage in life when we're most creative.

Yo creo que el mensaje es bastante claro, el film nos muestra los dos extremos: Rigidez y caos, cada hermano de hecho representa estos elementos, al ver a la madre de los niños comprendemos que ella es la razón para que Sally esté tan contenida, olvidándose por completo de que aún es una niña, su hermano por el contrario representa el idealismo, el espíritu libre que se resiste a ser domado y el gato es aún peor, es la representación del caos en potencia, pero al final de cuenta sirve como válvula de escape, en especial para Sally, una manera de entender que a veces la vida necesita un poco de desorden. Las reglas son importantes, desde luego, existen por una razón, pero los niños deben ser eso, niños, deben divertirse y los adultos deben respetar su creatividad y espontaneidad, es de hecho esa la etapa en la que somos más creativos.

The cat's presence is not accidental; it gives them the opportunity to be themselves, yes, but at the same time it is a catalyst for them to learn to work as a team if they want to correct mistakes.

On another note, I don't know if you've seen this movie, but I think many of the cat's jokes have a double meaning. I mean, they're suitable for children, nothing to be scandalized about, but they seem geared more towards an adult audience 😄. However, what I didn't like was the cat's design itself. I don't know... it gave me the same impression I had when I first saw the Teletubbies; it's kind of disturbing. I don't know how to explain it; it looks like something out of an old-school horror film or the deep web 🤣

I think it's a good movie to pass the time, it has a good message and is quite visually appealing to a children's audience.
