Hello, hello, internet folks! It had been years since I last saw this movie, and yesterday I had the chance to watch it again—but also to analyze it in depth—so let's take a look...
¡Hola Hola, gente de internet! Yo tenía años sin ver esta película y ayer tuve la oportunidad de volver a verla pero además, de analizarla a fondo, así que veamos...
Cady Heron is unlike other girls, having been raised in Africa—practically in the wild—by her naturalist parents; however, she suddenly returns to her place of origin and ends up in a high school where she discovers a social system much like the natural world: a "survival of the fittest" environment where everyone is divided by ethnicity or personality. At the top of this hierarchy—so to speak—are the "Plastics," girls who prioritize appearance and popularity above all else; consequently, Cady and her friends devise a plan to undermine Regina (the leader of the Plastics), but in the process, Cady begins to lose her own identity.
Cady Heron es una muchacha diferente al resto pues ha sido criada en África, prácticamente en medio de la naturaleza pues sus padres son naturalistas, sin embargo de un momento a otro ella retorna a su lugar de origen y por lo tanto termina en una secundaria en la cual descubre que el sistema es prácticamente igual al de la naturaleza, se implementa la ley del más fuerte y todos se dividen según su etnia o personalidades, en medio de todo esto, arriba de la pirámide, por llamarlo de alguna manera, están las chicas plásticas, chicas que priorizan la apariencia y popularidad por encima de todo lo demás, así que Cady y sus amigos idean un plan para desestabilizar a Regina (la líder de las plásticas) pero en medio del plan Cady comienza a perder su propia identidad.
Most obviously, the film highlights the need for attention among adolescents—and, in particular, the need to belong to a group. Young people tend to divide themselves into "tribes," so to speak (the popular kids, the nerds, the artists, the goths); the goal is to belong to one of these cliques to avoid social limbo. They are capable of doing anything to fit in—even turning against one another—and may ultimately lose their own identities in the process.
Lo más evidente es que la película expone la necesidad de atención que tienen los adolescentes y en especial, la necesidad por pertenecer a un grupo. Los jóvenes gustan de dividirse en “tribus” por llamarlo de alguna forma, (los populares, los nerds, los artistas, los góticos) en caso es pertenecer a una de estas etnias para no quedar en un limbo social, y el caso es que ellos son capaces de hacer lo que sea por pertenecer, hasta de agredirse entre ellos, y pueden llegan a perder su propia identidad.
On the other hand, there is also the lack of boundaries; we realize that Regina isn't so unpleasant for no reason—there is an explanation for it. The girl suffers from profound emotional abandonment: her mother is physically present but emotionally absent—she sets no limits and doesn't listen. Her mother normalizes certain behaviors and cares only about appearances, so that is the only thing Regina has learned—to value her looks and nothing else, because, in her view, nothing else matters. Parents are not friends; they are guides. Yet, when young people lose sight of this, they lose themselves.
Pero por otra parte también tenemos la falta de límites, nos damos cuenta que Regina no es así de desagradable porque sí, existe una razón para ello, la muchacha sufre un abandono emocional impresionante, su madre está presente pero es como si no estuviera, no establece límites, no la escucha, la madre normaliza conductas y solo se preocupa por lucir bien, así que esto es lo único que Regina ha aprendido, a valorar su apariencia y nada más, porque nada más importa, según su percepción. Los padres no son amigos, son guías, pero cuando los jóvenes pierden esta idea se pierden así mismos.
Regina is a far more realistic villain than cinema has often portrayed, as she possesses seemingly valid reasons for her popularity. After all, who would want to be friends with a mean girl who insults everyone? No one, right? Regina goes to great lengths to avoid that image; she presents herself as kind, sweet, and understanding, while privately speaking her true mind. Furthermore, she doesn't use force to coerce others, but rather relies on gossip and rumors to manipulate them. She is cunning; that is why, when the opportunity arose regarding the infamous "Burn Book," she didn't attack the others—she attacked herself instead, playing the victim to garner sympathy.
Regina es una villana mucho más real de lo que otras veces ha mostrado el cine, porque ella tiene aparentes razones que justifican su popularidad.. ¿Quién querría ser amigo de una chica malvada que insulta a todo el mundo? Nadie, ¿cierto? Pues precisamente Regina evita esto a toda costa, ella se muestra amable, dulce y comprensiva pero en privado dice lo que realmente piensa, ella tampoco utiliza la fuerza para coaccionar sino el chisme y los rumores para manipular, es astuta, por eso cuando tuvo la oportunidad no agredió a las demás en el famoso libro de rumores, sino que se agredió a si misma para victimizarse y obtener empatía.
