Today I want to share some photos of my little dog, Harry, with you. I’ve mentioned him before, but many of you might not know the backstory. Harry is a rescue dog; my mom and sister found him on the street on New Year's Eve. He was very small and scared, so they decided to adopt him, and when they took him to the vet, the doctor said he was probably about two months old.
Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes algunas fotos de mi perrito Harry, en ocasiones anteriores yo he hablado sobre él, pero puede ser que muchos de ustedes no tengan contexto. Harry es un perrito rescatado de la calle, mi mamá y mi hermana lo encontraron una víspera de año nuevo en la calle, era muy pequeño y asustadizo, así que decidieron adoptarlo y cuando lo llevaron al veterinario la doctora dijo que probablemente tenía unos dos meses.
He has been with us for over a year now and is a dearly loved little dog; however, he remains skittish—likely due to the trauma of living outdoors from such a young age. His panic intensifies especially when it rains and thunders; at those times, he suffers an anxiety attack and only calms down when he seeks refuge in one of our laps. Yesterday, he fell asleep in my arms while going through one of these attacks; I hold him close and speak to him in a slow, gentle voice, which relaxes him and makes him feel secure.
Ya tiene un año y varios meses con nosotros, es un perrito muy amado, aunque lamentablemente sigue siendo asustadizo, quizá como un trauma por haber estado a la intemperie desde tan pequeño, pero sobre todo su pánico se intensifica cuando el día se pone lluvioso y hay truenos, en ese momento le da un ataque de ansiedad y solo se calma cuando busca refugio en el regazo de alguno de nosotros. Ayer se durmió en mis brazos mientras atravesaba uno de estos ataques de ansiedad, yo lo estrecho contra mi y procuro hablarle de manera pausada y dulce, eso lo relaja y lo hace sentir contenido.
Harry is a dearly loved little dog; we may not have luxuries at home, but he never lacks food, a warm bed, or—above all—love. He is very important to us, and we strive to ensure he lives every day of his life happily. No animal should ever be left to fend for itself; every one of them deserves a family where they can find protection, understanding, and plenty of love. I love holding Harry close and speaking to him tenderly.
Harry es un perrito muy amado, quizá no tengamos lujos en casa pero a él no le falta ni alimento ni una cama cálida y mucho menos amor, es muy importante para nosotros y cada día de su existencia procuramos que lo viva con felicidad. Ningún animalito debía ser abandonado a su suerte, todos deberían tener a una familia en la que pueda hallar protección, compresión y mucho amor. Me encanta estrechar a mi Harry contra mi y hablarle con dulzura.
