Here’s to the victims
Who did not live to grow old;
To the poets and artists
Left out in the cold;
To the words of the prophets
Who would not be denied:
Who would bear witness to the suffering
When e’er humanity cried
Here’s to the children
Fighting personal pain
Who became the everyday hostages
Of some modern-day Cain.
And what of our leaders
Who lead only into the mire…?
Tell me your justification
For your proposed ‘cleansing with fire’?
So here’s to a new world
Free of their arrogance and spite;
And here’s to a new seed
Who will stand up and fight
The failed doctrines of old men
And the flawed reasoning of fools-
Yes… the young will make history…
They will not play by such rules!
