I recently completed a 12-lesson golf course, and the journey turned out to be far more dramatic than I expected. The first eight lessons were held at the driving range. After each session, I recorded a video, and over time I could clearly see my progress—my swing became more consistent, and my ball striking improved noticeably. These videos even gained some unexpected attention on YouTube, which motivated me to keep going.
However, everything changed when the last four lessons moved onto a real golf course. Suddenly, all the confidence I had built at the range seemed to disappear. Playing on an actual course—with real fairways, distances, and pressure—felt like learning a completely different sport. During the first three on-course lessons, I barely improved, and because of that, I didn’t bother recording any new videos.
Then came the final lesson, where something unexpected happened. It was a standard par-4 hole. Typically, that means one shot to reach the fairway, a second shot to the green, and two putts to finish. But on that day, I did something I didn’t think I was capable of—I sank the ball with a single putt on my third stroke, scoring a birdie and finishing the hole in just three shots.
Right before my putt, my coach started recording with his phone. He didn’t expect me to make it—after all, I usually struggle even with short putts, let alone one from that distance. He even joked that if I actually made it, he would submit the video to a news station.
And then, I made it.
Everyone on the course cheered. It wasn’t just my personal highlight—it was the only birdie anyone in our group achieved. That moment felt like a perfect combination of effort, timing, and a bit of luck coming together in a way that made everything worthwhile.
Twelve weeks, just one hour per week, at a relatively low cost—but the experience turned out to be incredibly rewarding. I picked up a new skill, met new friends, and ended the whole journey with a memorable finish. Life lately has been simple, but deeply fulfilling.
