Hello my fellow Architecture+Design community members,
What's up Hivers, I believe you are doing well with loving family. We are going to participate in the family outing organized by the company where we work next weekend. For that, I, my wife and daughter represent our family. We have to go to the resort in Chilaw. We had to buy new clothes to go to the resort, which is located near a lagoon and a beach. For that we had to go to the nearby city of Galle. A leisurely Sunday afternoon was reserved for that because of the rain in the morning. Called Manjari Trade Center, the old appearance of this institution has been removed and given a new face. Hence it has been renamed as New Manjari Trade Centre. More people visit this place because they can buy any material needed for the home at a reasonable price. Since I came to this place to buy clothes, I will mention the facts about its exterior and interior design through this content.
Located in Minuwangoda area on the Galle-Wakwella road, the front of the new Manjari Trade Center has an attractive and modern design. Above the red wall, a collection of square shaped glass frames are installed transparently from the floors inside, creating a different shape. This is a tall building. Strong thick iron bars has been used for the durability of this building of average height.
To the left of New Manjari Trade Center there was a cement brick block for motorcycle and bicycle parking. Also, it is beneficial to prepare a sufficient space for parking other vehicles. The shade of the large tree in the motorcycle zone protects them from the sun. On the ground floor, the front and side square glass-encased frames are arranged in a transparent manner.
Looking straight up from below, you can see how the building kisses the sky. The front looks like a single building, but when viewed from the side, it appears that several parts have been added to the front.
Downstairs you can see the lights fixed to the ceiling sheets themselves. Those lights are round in shape and produce more light. Ceiling sheets without any decoration add charm to the building.
Entering the trade center through the entrance gate is not only to buy clothes but also to get an insight into the architectural settings inside. This is a multi-storied building and two staircases have been created at two places to go up and down. These stair arrangements seemed to vary from floor to floor. The way in which the various products are displayed is unique and motivates the customers to buy them. Although the exterior lights are fixed to the ceiling, the interior lighting arrangement varies from floor to floor. Bright white light is used here with the objective of creating convenience for the customer. Hanging lamps were used for the lower floor where the cashiers are. Dedicating one end to walk uphill along the terrazzo floor is invaluable for older people.
Even close to the first floor, one can see many artistic creations that can be hung on the walls and used in the home. These had many creations of cultural stories, old rituals, beliefs, symbols etc. Those who believe in the old and want to give the house a new look buy these designs.
On both sides of the road leading to the top, a safety fence has been constructed using steel. The reason is to eliminate the accidents that can happen when small children run up. Carcass stainless steel is used for this.
The way the goods are packaged and displayed in the New Manjari Trade Center is very interesting. The space in the middle is reinforced with cement concrete pillars. In addition to the main pillars, concrete canals have been built across the middle.
The first floor had terrazzo floors, but the first floor and other floors had ceramic tiles. Tiles with a simple shape have been used for that. Indeed, it is preferable to use simpler and different construction and configuration concepts.
I mentioned earlier that the staircases are made using different materials. A special tile with a unique design has been used for the first stairs. Once the light falls, the stairs will have more brightness.
But the next steps are made of cement, stone and wood. Concrete is mixed with cement and stone and parallel wood is added in between. The fence used to support both sides is made of steel. Such variations of architectural elements within the same building add variety.
Towers rising from the ground floor on each floor rise parallel to each other, with supporting columns added to support the strength of the larger building. A longer area is also seen on every floor. Thicker steel was used for these large concrete support shafts. The highest ceiling of the building is made of concrete, shaped like an air-conditioned bus.
A space was reserved here for the sale of the products of the brass industry, which was a traditional industry in Sri Lanka. These brass lamps, pots and dagabs are used for ceremonies where old traditional rituals are displayed. Designs that reflect a traditional industry are worth continuing in this way.
Next, I observed the sale of artificial flowers, which attracted both men and women. Like other household items, flowers were also beautifully displayed. Especially, the order of processing implemented to attract customers is remarkable. The arrangement of the bouquets on the shelves is attractive.
A number of ornamental flowers can be seen in that small area. When you enter the place, you feel like entering a world of colors. I think you have got an idea about the fine arrangement of this beautiful institution. I spent most of my time exploring the construction layout and architectural elements that existed here. Here I will end the exploration of a building full of modern architectural features full of differences from a traditional place. See you again with fresh architecture content.
