This weeks word of the week is "atmosphere" When I hear this word it made me think of a now legendary local underground nightclub called "the manor" on matchams lane Bournemouth.
The manor was as it sounds an old stately home that had been bought and turned into a amazing nightclub on top of a hill in the middle of the countryside.. you had to get a taxi there or walk - it was 5 miles from the nearest shop and way out of the beat and track for a nightclub..
It only ran for three years, yet people still talk about it 20 years later - there is still facebook groups for those who went there.
I Have memories of the massive climb up the hill to get there, and then seeing long lines of people waiting to get in at the top, once through the door it opened up into a hallway - its slogan was "three arenas - 1 vibe" my vibe was upstairs -..... In the drum and bass room.
it was dark with little in the way of lighting, but the bass was insane - i swear the floor used to bounce - with a few hundred people stomping i would not be surprised if it did! , some of the countries top DJs played their , DJ rap, kenny ken, nicky blackmarket, zinc, micky finn ,goldie, ltj bukem , the list goes on..
I was 14 at the time but security didn't care, its mad when I think about it, strong ecstacy was readily available... they had a bar but I don't think they sold much alcohol, Ice pops and slush puppies were far more in demand!
The atmosphere was amazing - no fighting, no knife crime , no try hard badman attitudes, just amazing music, strong drugs (not that i am endorsing advocating or advising! but they are a part of nightclubs and cant be ignored), and good times.
I tried to find some footage but mobile phones were just becoming a thing and camera phones were years off, and now I feel old!
