The above image was made with stable diffusion using the prompt 'the word "RSTORY" written on a billboard cyberpunk.' Below is a draft of the video script for my first @rstory promo video.
Rstory
Society is in trouble and the powers that be are only making things worse.
The covid economy stole trillions of dollars from average people and redistributed these funds to billionaires and large corporations. At the same time, a massive corporate price gouging conspiracy in combination with cartoonishly lavish government spending has sucked the value right out of our American dollars, leaving most of us scrambling to make ends meet.
Online, the censorship regime put in place during the pandemic now includes all major search engines and social media platforms, as well as mainstream news in its entirety. This leaves us in a situation where we're continually exposed to establishment propaganda but can't even access information that questions this propaganda.
I could go on and on about our problems. But this video isn't about problems. It's about solutions. What we need is a real alternative to the rigged economic system. Information sharing networks that are impossible to censor. A constructive path forward even if society is falling apart.
More than anything, what we need is a new story. An empowering story. So I put together Rstory. And now I'm going to tell you how Rstory changes the game.
Right now, every news site you visit wants to know exactly who you are so they can profit from your personal data. And if they're collecting the data, predatory corporations and repressive regimes can easily use it against us.
More generally, the online media landscape is dominated by companies that make their money from ads or from perpetually renewing subscription fees. Many online ads are essentially malware. And when every newspaper charges $10/month, it quickly turns basic knowledge of the world into a luxury item.
Rstory represents an entirely different model. A model grounded in decentralization and data integrity. The Rstory token functions as a key for accessing media products. There is no need to have an account with every website, because possession of the token is sufficient to access content on any site. The content itself is stored on IPFS, which means it can't be censored or modified in any way by anyone. Publishers can sell tokens directly to their readers for revenue or use the tokens in promotional campaigns.
Think about it this way, if you have an Rstory token you can go to rstory.io and read my science fiction novels for free. The token has no expiration date and it's entirely transferable, so you can send your token to a friend when you're done reading and your friend can read the novels for free too. The wallet where Rstory is stored can also be used to store other special purpose tokens. Imagine if New York Times, Washington Post, Netflix, and all the rest each sold their own subscription tokens instead of making us all sign up for a million accounts just to see what's going on in the world.
There are two ways to get Rstory at this point. You can buy tokens for EOS on Alcor exchange or you can get them directly from me. I'll also be giving tokens to publishers who agree to make their digital products available to Rstory holders. Beyond this, I plan to give tokens to project contributors, and to people doing things that I like in general.
Most token projects have a team and financial backers. Not this one. And although I brought Rstory into being, my intention is to eventually hand control of the project over to the community. If you want to join this community, I'd love to hear from you. Rstory on its own might not change the world. But maybe it can empower us to make a few things a little better.
