For many of my books, I've considered cover art only briefly. My usual habit has been to simply grab an image off of Pixabay or Unsplash, edit it a bit in Gimp, and call it a day. I did this with the understanding that I'd eventually get around to redoing all of the cover art with AI. In the last few days, I've started that process.
Above is the new art for One Man Embassy. It was made with DALL-E-2 using the prompt 'A man in a flying saucer hovering above a colorful crowd of people in a field of flowers.' I did one Man Embassy first because this will become my first audiobook, and I wanted good art to go with that.
Here's the new art for Flying Saucer Shenanigans, the direct sequel to One Man Embassy. It was made with DALL-E-2 using the prompt 'two small flying saucers over downtown minneapolis cartoon.' It took many tries to produce something that both worked with the book's contents and fit with the tone I want to establish for the art. Like the stories I tell, the art is fun, even a little whimsical.
Here we have the new art for Blue Dragon Mississippi, sequel to both One Man Embassy and Flying Saucer Shenanigans. It was made with DALL-E-2 using the prompt 'a blue dragon and a flying saucer in a river valley.' This one works alright, but it isn't my favorite. I may keep trying until I come up with something more perfect.
Along with using these designs for my audiobooks as they get made, I can use them whenever one of the novels gets relisted or revised/reprinted. I love how bright they are, and feel like they might do a better job of capturing attention online than my existing cover designs. What do you think?
