I feel like the deterioration of the media is partly the product of society's fragmentation. It's hard to report the facts when there's no clear consensus about shared reality and the larger story we're all participating in. And even when the facts are clear, making sense of them and all of the perspectives involved is a daunting proposition.
Reading a fair amount of news has taught me to appreciated nakedly slanted articles. When the origin and purpose of propaganda is known, it is easy to make sense of. And I guess I view all news as propaganda on some level, so when an article's purpose isn't clear, it bothers me a little.
