Everybody knows that the intelligence community lies. Lying is pretty much their thing. And yet, when over 50 former intelligence officials wrote a letter asserting that the now-infamous Hunter Biden laptop appeared to them to be the product of Russia's intelligence apparatus, I believed them. It didn't seem possible that so many important people with relevant expertise would mislead the public about such a matter.
The laptop has now been fully authenticated. Those intelligence officials may have known it was genuine the whole time. Their letter was a ruse and I fell for it. I trusted the experts and the experts were manipulating the narrative for political reasons.
This wasn't the only time I mistakenly trusted the experts in the last few years. I was also fooled by a Nature article titled 'The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2.' Here's a quote from the paper's conclusions:
Although the evidence shows that SARS-CoV-2 is not a purposefully manipulated virus, it is currently impossible to prove or disprove the other theories of its origin described here. However, since we observed all notable SARS-CoV-2 features, including the optimized RBD and polybasic cleavage site, in related coronaviruses in nature, we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible.
Anthony Fauci used evidence like this to dismiss the idea that covid came from a lab. Time has revealed that the lab leak theory of covid's origins is entirely plausible. And it turns out that Mr Fauci was directly involved in manipulating the science he would later cite as proof that covid didn't come from a lab.
Even though I work in alternative media and am not easily fooled, both the intelligence community letter and the Nature article had me believing nonsense for a while. I believed the nonsense and passed it on, citing these items in conversation at various times. Even now, I find it difficult to accept that these things were merely part of the propaganda program to which we've all been subjected in recent years. How could so many people with the strongest credibility imaginable be so compromised?
The negative impacts of this propaganda program are glaringly evident. With hundreds of thousands dead and millions of others harmed by pandemic policies in the US alone, our political process no longer appears remotely legitimate and the credibility of our expert class is largely gone. These aren't minor issues. They're the kinds of issues that produce armed insurrections.
More Americans have been killed by pandemic policies than died fighting the wars in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan combined. Some are understandably upset about this death toll, and about the other harms our population has experienced due to bad policies. It would be great if we as a society could figure out a peaceful way to hold our wayward leaders accountable for the harm they've caused. Unfortunately, not everyone is committed to peace.
At this point, I fear the popular backlash against our corrupt government as much as I fear the government itself. My sense is that this backlash hasn't even really started yet. It takes time to wrap our heads around something so big and atrocious. It took me until now to fully grasp how insidious the intelligence community letter and the Nature article really were.
Both items were products of vast conspiracies that involved the highest levels of government. Conspiracies that were themselves part of a larger conspiracy to ensure that the pandemic unfolded in exactly the way that it did. Big companies and elites profited immensely from this. They profited at the expense of average people and society as a whole.
As more and more people slowly wake up to these realities, I doubt that they'll respond by doing nothing. Some may wave protest signs or simply lash out at their surroundings. Some may flood the legal system with politically motivated court cases. A few will undoubtedly perpetrate violence. But my hope is that more people will find constructive and collaborative ways to respond. Maybe this hope is a little foolish. Even if it is, I guess I prefer hope to the alternative.
