Yep. These days, I am part of those young people who prefer to shop online. It’s not that I don’t support local businesses anymore. I still do and I am buying them from their online channels that are available through various e-commerce markets. Before Covid happened, I was already an online shopper. It’s very convenient and I don’t have to leave my room to get whatever I want within hours. It’s insane how I can get groceries delivered to me without needing to leave my room. Ever. But I got tired of being cooped up and eventually getting back to go outside again. Then, I once again went back to online shopping because it actually saves me so much money.

When I was living with my mom, I realized I wasted a lot of money on transportation. Then, I was looking for more alternatives to pinch more money and ended up finding out, buying them online is more feasible and cheaper. One of the reasons that they are cheaper is that they have less overhead costs than a traditional store. However, the only problem is that, when I was living with my mom, they didn't really have online groceries for vegetables and fruits. The shipment was also about a day compared to where I am living now, where I can get anything, you name it, within 2 hours and even less. There are also more stores where I live now compared to back home. So, it's partly why I was able to be a lot more economical with my spending compared to living with my mom. I have more options and qualities while the prices here remains low.

With online shopping, I managed to track my finances fairly well as well as knowing how much I spent in a month. That also includes the goods that I purchased. I am not really a big consumer because all I need is simple needs such as food and coffee. These days, I even started to buy my cats’ food online as well and they are so much cheaper than what I was used to buyingbuy at home. By buying online though, I also have to plan everything in advance. I love it that way because I don’t have to be wasteful and I know how many items I would need in a month or a weekly basis. However, there are cons of buying online especially when it comes to privacy. One of the ways I do this is basically asking the driver to drop not exactly at my own place. I also used a burner’s number and phone just in case they needed to contact me. That is because I heard about massive spam calls from one of e-commerce market in the country (Shopee) and a lot of scams and data mining going on. Whereas buying from traditional stores, you rarely worry about that stuff. And I’ll be likely to switch anytime sooner because since my goal is to save money, it does the job thus far.
