Obsessing over gears, especially backpacks, has been my pastime hobby. Many people out there go outside a lot but I bet they don’t stress out about their gears. They just go around the world and not overthink about what bags to have but this girl right here, cares about all that.

I personally find it annoying that I care about what gears I have compared to the past. In the past, none of these matters because what I believed was that as long as I move around freely, nothing else matters. It wasn’t until I got introduced to a brand called EIGER, it’s a great Indonesian brand that sells outdoor items and supplies.

They are mostly focusing on mountaineering but their line called 1989 is one that caught my attention the most. The 1989 line has a classic touch to it and comes in many soft-colored options that are trendy.

Anyway, this Friday I was going to their store to get a TSA lock but guess what, my eyes were drooling over the latest line of 1989 bags and its accessories. Many of Eiger products are waterproof and I have tested it especially once when I was riding through a thunderstorm with my laptop inside including other electronics and nothing was soaked.Anyway, as you see below, that’s the layout of the store and in my city it’s pretty big compared to other places I’ve been to.

I started using this brand about two years ago and have been in love with their bags. They are durable, stylish, trendy and have enough pockets for someone like me. I love their olive colored bags and throughout my adventure, they have been with me through the rain and the blazing hot of Indonesia. Although one thing I don’t like about them is that it doesn’t actually fit that many things. For a small day laptop bag, you can’t even fit in a couple of shirts. However, it was just enough if you want to go for an urban adventure for a day or two.

Almost every bag and my gear that I have is from them. For a bag compared to other local brands, they can be pretty pricey but it’s the quality that I am in love with. It’s really hard to find something below $50 for a solid traveling backpack. I recently upgraded mine to a 30L bag. It certainly can fit about two weeks worth of clothing and is carry-on friendly. However, for some reason, they are a bit too bulky to my liking and I needed more bags to carry other items which wasn’t something that I should do.

My initial plan when visiting the store was only to get the lock but as soon as I saw discounts, I started browsing the discounted section and I found one thing that I might need, a small passport pouches with a card compartment. I also ended up finding a microfiber towel that was small enough to fit my backpack. So, there I was, I ended up getting more and guilty as charged. I almost bought another bag but sanity prevails because why would I need them when I have another perfectly usable backpack to use. When I got home, my mom asked me where I was and told her that I was at the Eiger store and she shook her head because she knew I was buying something more than just a lock. I showed her what I bought and the pouch looked slick.

In the past, when I was working as a copywriter for a backpack company, I found it interesting that the backpack sold had a USB compartment and such. They were all mostly built in for a digital nomad. However, even the nomad I meet uses backpacks that are mountaineering-like instead of smaller ones except a few minimalists that I found traveling with a few shirts and that was it. Anyway, it was a dream of mine to get a solid backpack and a nice one. Years later, I found the perfect backpack for me and fell in love completely with the Eiger product because of their quality and durability.

The only problem I have now is that I need to stop upgrading to a bigger one because I think that the more space I have, the more I want to fill it up. And it’s time to stop. In the past, I wasn’t like this though now, I find myself getting more and more obsessed with dressing well and don't look like a hobo from down the street. Even while writing this, I am in the process of re-thinking what matters to me the most and what kind of clothing I should bring for the next couple of months. Should I stick with my hobo persona or a digital nomad one, and perhaps the sweatshirt kinda girl-look. Anyway, thanks for reading my blog about this backpack obsession I have :D.
