Every country has beautiful places waiting to be discovered. In Germany, especially in the countryside, you can find a calm, relaxing, and peaceful environment away from the busy city life.
In this post, I’ll be sharing a glimpse of our peaceful life throughout the four seasons here in our little Dorf—or, in English, our little village.
I also want to highlight the beautiful nature around us: trees of different colors, shapes, and sizes; the crystal-clear waters of the Elbe River; the forest that people in our village love to walk through; and simply the beautiful surroundings that give us so many wonderful moments to capture.
I’m truly glad that we live in the countryside because this place offers so much. Sometimes, you just need to look around, appreciate what you have, and be content with the simple way of life.
SUMMER🌞
I love this little creation my daughter and I made together! I first drew a girl with long braided hair on a rectangular piece of cardboard. Then, I made small holes around her head so that whenever my daughter picked flowers, she could stick them into the holes and create a beautiful flower crown for the girl, just like the one in the picture. 🌸
I thought this was a really good idea to keep her engaged with nature and prevent her from getting bored when she was playing on her own. We both enjoyed picking random, beautiful flowers and arranging them on the girl's head.
For me, this is one of those simple activities that will never get old, especially when you have a big garden full of flowers to explore. It's such a lovely way to combine creativity, nature, and quality time with my daughter without having to buy anything expensive. Sometimes, the simplest ideas bring the most joy!
This is the Elbe River, which meanders for roughly 12 kilometers through the municipality of Nünchritz, located in the Meißen district of Saxony, Germany.
The river flows through a mix of rural landscapes, green floodplains, and industrial areas, most notably the historic Wacker Chemie AG plant, which has operated along the banks of the Elbe for over a century.
The river's right bank also features a popular stretch of the long-distance Elbe Cycle Path, which runs between Riesa and Meißen. Many people love cycling along this route, but for us, this particular spot is perfect for a picnic with the kids, a place to unwind, or simply somewhere to sit back and enjoy the peaceful view.
Sometimes, you don't need to travel far to find a beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature.
This is my favorite view along the Elbe River. I love seeing the tower from this spot, and I love the peaceful ambiance it creates. It adds to the beauty and aesthetic atmosphere of the surroundings, giving me even more reasons to appreciate life in the countryside.
Because I love this view so much, I decided to draw it in my little notebook as a way to preserve the memory of this beautiful place. Sometimes, taking a picture isn't enough. I also want to capture the places I love through my own drawings, creating little keepsakes that I can look back on and cherish in the future.
These flowers might not look that big in the picture, but they really are! They’re even much bigger than my hands, which makes them so amazing to look at! 🌺
They look like gumamela (hibiscus flowers), but much bigger, and they come in different colors, too. I spotted these beautiful flowers in front of one of the houses in Nünchritz, the neighboring village connected to ours. I would really love to have these beautiful flowers growing in our garden someday!
These are red currants that I picked along the way while cycling home from work. This is one of the things I really appreciate about living here: fruits seem to be growing everywhere!
Of course, you need to know how to distinguish wild fruits from those growing in your neighbors’ gardens! But still, I was so happy when I spotted these little red berries. I stopped for a moment, picked a few to eat, and brought some more home with me.
But to be honest, they weren't sweet at all. In fact, they were SOOO sour! Hahaha! 😂 I guess I should have expected that from red currants, but I still couldn't resist picking some when I saw them along the way!
This spot is still along the Elbe River. Can you see the tower? It's right there!
Here is the public swimming pool in our village. During the summer, people from nearby villages also come here to enjoy the facilities. Most visitors are families with children who can safely enjoy the playground, have a picnic, and, of course, swim in the pool.
The pool is divided into three sections. The left side is shallow, reaching only about knee-deep, making it suitable for little ones to splash around in. The middle section is about hip-deep and is intended for less confident swimmers, although children should always be supervised. The right side is reserved for swimmers. There are also staff members available to look after the facilities and help guide visitors.
You can even have a barbecue and enjoy drinks here, making it a perfect meeting place for friends and families.
But my favorite thing about this place is its beautiful setting. The pool is surrounded by a forest, which is why it is called a Waldbad in German. The word refers to an outdoor swimming pool in a natural, forested setting.
The beautiful forest views and peaceful atmosphere make the whole place feel so relaxing. Whenever I spend time here, I feel a sense of calm and peace. It's one of those lovely places where you can simply enjoy nature, spend time with your loved ones, and appreciate the simple pleasures of life.
This are Brombeeren means blackberries in English.
I love this shot because you can see how the field on one side has a different color from the other. The contrast between the two sides makes the landscape look even more beautiful and interesting.
flowers, flowers, flowers..😍🌸
This is one of the cherry trees my friend and I used to visit every summer. There are many cherry trees in this part of the field in our village, where you can pick as many cherries as your heart desires! 🍒 We’re lucky to have them for free because cherries in the supermarket are horribly expensive. Hahaha! It's such a lovely feeling to enjoy fresh cherries straight from the trees without spending a single cent.
This is still the Waldbad in our village.
Sunflowers are also one of the crops that companies plant in the fields, alongside rapeseed and corn. That's why, in our village, you can often see them along the highways or simply everywhere you go! 🌻 They're so amazing to look at, especially when you see a wide, open field covered in bright yellow sunflowers. The whole view is just so beautiful and aesthetic! I never get tired of seeing these lovely flowers brighten up the countryside. 💛🌻
AUTUMN🍂
Now it's autumn, the time of year when the weather starts getting colder and the leaves change their colors from green to red, yellow, and orange. It's the perfect season to go mushroom hunting in the forest, when the days become shorter and it gets dark much earlier. You can see fog almost every morning, and rainy days become more frequent.
These seasonal changes are simply amazing! Nature itself is wonderful, and there's so much happening during autumn. Every little change makes this season special in its own way.
For my family, autumn is also the time when I start changing our clothes from lightweight summer outfits to thicker, warmer ones. And guess what? This is also when I realize that some of the clothes we bought just last autumn no longer fit us, especially my daughter's! Hahaha! It's crazy how quickly children grow, but I guess that's just how it works. Before we know it, we'll be doing the same thing all over again next year! 🍁
We saw this tree during our first year here in Germany, back in those first few months when we used to walk to the forest almost every day. One day, while strolling through the woods, we came across this little creation. I guess some children must have made it, and I found it so cute how they glued tiny windows onto the trunk of the tree.
It's lovely to see how a child's imagination works and how creative children can be. They have such a special way of looking at things, finding beauty and purpose even in the simplest objects. What might look like an ordinary cut tree to an adult can become something magical and meaningful in the eyes of a child.
Little things like this remind me how wonderful it is to see the world through a child's imagination. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity to turn something simple into something special.
This tree is just one example of how they turn simple things into little attractions for people, especially families with children, who come to walk in the forest.
Sometimes, you can find tree branches arranged in the shape of a triangular house, which they call a "Witch's House." You might also come across extra benches in the middle of the forest where people can sit, relax, or enjoy a little picnic. And sometimes, there are small wooden structures or activity areas where children can play and have fun.
These little things might seem simple, but they are truly heartwarming to me. ❤️
I love how someone takes the time to create something that makes a forest walk more enjoyable for others, especially for children. It shows that even in the middle of nature, a little creativity and thoughtfulness can make a big difference. It's not always about grand attractions or expensive playgrounds; sometimes, it's these simple little surprises that make a place feel so special.
This is a small hunting tower that hunters use when they visit the forest to hunt animals such as deer, wild boar, and rabbits.
However, here in Germany, not everyone is allowed to hunt and kill wild animals. Only people with the proper hunting license and the required permissions are allowed to do so. It's interesting to see these hunting towers while walking through the forest, as they are part of how hunting is managed here in Germany.
WINTER❄️
Winter is here, and the weather gets colder and darker with each passing day. Fewer people walk around the village, and sometimes the whole place is covered in a beautiful blanket of snow. You might see children ice-skating on the road or little ones enjoying a sleigh ride while their papas or mamas pull them along.❄️
This is also my husband's favorite time of the year, especially when he has to scrape the thick layer of ice off our car. Hahaha!
For many people here in Germany, winter is also the perfect time to enjoy Glühwein, a traditional warm, spiced wine that is especially popular during the colder months. It's often served warm with flavors like orange and cinnamon. But for us, finding a good brand with a taste we love is already enough to make a cold winter evening feel special.
There's something so cozy about sipping Glühwein with your loved ones while watching a movie or enjoying a barbecue together. You'll see a few pictures of these lovely moments here, too. Sometimes, it's these simple pleasures that make winter feel warm and wonderful, even when the weather outside is freezing! 🍷
This was one of those winter nights last year when we decided to have a little barbecue on our terrace while sipping one of our favorite Glühwein!
Can you see the steam rising from the warm wine? That's exactly what I'm talking about! Hehe!
The blue mug you see here is one we bought at a Christmas market in Altenburg, a town in Thuringia where my husband's parents live. It's a locally made Glühwein mug, which makes it even more special to us. ❤️
Speaking of Christmas markets, they are among the most popular events in Germany during winter. You can find beautiful decorations, little stalls selling handmade items, delicious food, and, of course, warm Glühwein! Hopefully, I'll get the chance to share some pictures of these lovely Christmas markets here on my blog next time. 🎄
For our little barbecue, we also prepared meatballs and beef steaks to grill. Nothing too fancy, just good food, warm drinks, and time together at home. It was one of those memorable winter evenings that made me appreciate our simple life in our little village even more. Sometimes, the coziest moments happen right at home.
This was just a quick shot I took at the back of our home. I wanted to capture how the ground, bushes, and trees were slowly starting to get covered in snow.
Sadly, I didn't take many pictures during winter last year because I mostly recorded videos of the snow falling like rain, covering every corner of our street. It was such a beautiful sight to watch!
Hopefully, this coming winter, I'll remember to take more pictures so I can share more of these lovely moments here on my blog, too. There's so much beauty in the changing seasons, and I want to keep more of these little memories of our life in this peaceful village.❄️
SPRING🍃
Here comes spring, the season when the bare trees begin to grow their leaves again, and the bushes and ground start bursting with flowers. It's also the time when tulips of different colors begin to bloom. Aren't they such beautiful flowers? I just love how they bring so much color and life to the surroundings!
In these pictures, you can see different kinds of flowers blooming in our garden. Although the weather is still a little chilly, the sun is already making its appearance from time to time, giving us a little taste of warmer days ahead.
During this season, you'll also notice more and more people walking around the village with smiles on their faces. Gardens become more colorful as people plant flowers and decorate the spaces around their homes. Little by little, everyone starts putting away their thick winter clothes and wearing lighter outfits again.
There's something special about spring. After months of cold, dark days, everything slowly comes back to life. The village becomes more colorful, the days feel brighter, and even a simple walk outside feels more refreshing. It's such a beautiful reminder that after every winter, spring will always come again. 🌸
These flowers look just like Sakura or cherry blossoms, don't they? 🌸 But they're actually the blossoms of the apricot tree in our garden! Aren't they beautiful? I love how these delicate little flowers brighten up the garden and make it feel like spring has truly arrived. Such a lovely sight to enjoy right at home!
And this one stands right by the gate in front of our house. Look at those amazing, bright yellow leaves!
This tree also blooms with beautiful white flowers!
It's such a lovely sight to see when the branches are covered in delicate white blossoms.
This flower is called the common lilac. It is known for growing in large, dense, cone-shaped clusters called panicles, which are made up of many tiny, four-petaled flowers.
Lilacs are most commonly recognized for their beautiful shades of purple, lavender, and mauve, but they can also bloom in deep burgundy, pink, and white. Their lovely colors and clustered blossoms make them a beautiful addition to any garden. Lilacs are highly celebrated for their sweet, powerful, and distinct springtime fragrance.
Tulips, tulips, tulips! what a lovely sight!
One time, my friend and I rode our bikes to the supermarket, which is only about a 10-minute ride from our homes. Along the way, we came across this beautiful rapeseed field, my friend took this picture of me riding my bike with my pink plastic shopping bag on my back while she was riding her own bike and taking the picture at the same time. Hahaha! 😂 What a good shot! I don't even know how she managed to do that while cycling, but I'm glad she did. It's such a fun little memory from our ordinary trip to the supermarket!
Such a lovely sight! The bright yellow field stretched so far into the distance, and the flowers filled the air with their lovely fragrance. 💛
