Two weeks seems like a perfect time between updates for my tiny garden. You can see a huge difference in growth if you compare it with the previous update. I couldn’t be more happy with the progress and though there are some minor bug, cat issues, my plants seem healthy, happy and well.
At least there are no snail issues so far. It is promising! Last year snail armadas invaded all my greens, especially lettuce and spinach. Those shell carrying bastards! I’m waiting for my marigolds to come along to scare some bugs away and if snails appear lemon water and buckets of ashes are ready and waiting for them. I don’t use any chemicals, artificial fertilizers or pesticides in my garden.
I do not have sprinkler system, so it is a bit heavier lifting this lovely, dry summer. My watering hack is to do it at the evenings when the sun is going down so the plants can use the most of it. There is almost no point for watering during the day. It just evaporates in the heat too quickly. I heard it is illegal to collect rainwater in some parts of the world. Luckily this stupidity has not reached my country, so I can use collected rainwater for my garden most of the time.
Since this summer is so dry and warm, there is also less weed battling going on. I still go over the soil around the plants and puff everything up for better air circulation for the root systems. It is also a lot easier maintenance than waiting for weeds to take over. Each time I do this, I can see a big difference the next day, as my plants get stronger and bigger.
So let’s have a look at them! Shall we?
Tomatoes getting ready
Tiny bell pepper
Basil is one of my favorite herbs in entire world! That peppery scent!
Thyme plant blooming. I just compared this with the photo I took right after planting, 29 days ago and it made me smile. It has grown ten times the size!
So this is how baby asparagus look like @vermillionfox! ^^ Almost took them for weeds again. Good thing I waited a little while longer and by accident plucked one of them out of the soil with the tiny, black shell of the seed still attached to the root of it that made me realize it is asparagus seedling after all.
Chamomile blooming. Time to gather some tea!
Arugula
Spinach
I was a little worried about parsley never showing up, but here they are! Just took them longer to sprout.
Dill, a lot of dill. It is just so delicious to add them to potatoes, fish or meat when cooking. Mmm
Radish
Glorious lavender! So far this summer seems perfect for my lavender plants, fingers crossed. They begin to look like proper lavender plants now with hints of purple in the buds!
Lettuce is double the size since last update
Beans
This is the second year for these strawberry plants. They are so sweet, juicy and delicious! Can’t compare with tasteless strawberries from shops.
Thank you so much for reading and following tiny garden progress!
