Inktober 2021, Day13 - Roof

The word for day 13 of Inktober was - roof. I sense a bit of a theme forming as I go on with my drawings for this challenge. A returning, mysterious, grey-skinned alien character. A stranger and an explorer visiting even stranger worlds. Here have her wearing her stealthy, purple cape as she observes the even stranger city from the roof.

There are days when the creative energy flows with ease. There are also hard days when you have to fight and slay a bunch of monsters before you reach the top and are victorious. Let me tell you! I fought a bunch of battles for this one. Blood, sweat, tears, and all! xD At one point, I almost gave up but luckily I was encouraged to stay a course. The perfectionist within me can also be the biggest saboteur. I am beyond glad I did not give up and kept going. Happy little accidents...

I used my trusted Faber-Castell 2b pencil to start the battle with the underlying sketch. Then went over the lines with a Pigma Brush pen everywhere except for the background. Looking back, I think this was where I made a different turn than usual, which later complicated things. I then inked the character. It is not very unusual for me. I always do it in this order despite being taught to start with the background instead. I used the combination of Diamine jet black and purple calligraphy/drawing ink on the cape/hoodie.

The rooftops in the background were where I felt things getting difficult out of the blue. It wasn’t working for me until I whipped out the Pigma Brush pen once more and began going over everything there with heavy strokes. They muted the mess going on there enough for me to be happy with it. I then finished the drawing using the white Gelly Roll liner by adding stars in the Diamine Sherwood Green fountain pen ink sky and her attire.
