Spirit - Ink drawing, Hahnemühle Mixed Media paper 310 g/m² 21x16 cm, 2021
Since this wolf is wandering in spiritual realms, I wanted it to emerge from a shroud of a mystical mist of some sort. I started my work with a very simple outline drawing of a half-wolf. I then used a Pigma Brush pen to go over it. After that my trusted Diamine jet black drawing ink marbled the fur of the wolf by the touch of the water. I went in with the second coat of ink at the tip of the wolf’s ears, and where I felt more definition in features was needed.
Finally, I reached for one of my new inks as I felt it would add to the spiritedness of this tiny ink drawing. It is also from the Diamine brand, and it is called Arabian Nights. It is a cool-toned blue with silver shimmers in it. The camera is having a bit of difficulty capturing the full effect of the shimmering effect, but it can be seen in person. Similar to Autumn Oak fountain pen ink, this one also changes the tone slightly after drying. I mixed it with the jet black for the misty bit and also added some of it in the wolf’s fur to tie everything together. I think it turned out pretty nice, what do you think?
What would be your spirit animal and why?
