I used student loans to get through college, back in the 1970's. The generosity of my parents had practical limits.
I graduated with circa $7500 in debt. This was roughly equivalent to a new car / truck purchase. My debt was paid off in few years, through some decent raises, my salary grew from $22K to over $45K in a couple years.

The above article highlights my Alma Mater average debt now is almost $60K/borrower.
My experience was that my student debt was a manageable figure. Today's kids are much further encumbered group. I am concerned that we are enslaving our children to a debt level that is risky for their ability to generate a prosperous family life for their children.
