Education is the key to any nation's economic growth. Countries like Singapore and South Korea embrace education leading to an exponential growth of human capital. I am bringing you on a tour of one of Miri's public libraries. This library is full of students especially when exams are around the corner. I love going to the library. Reading is one of my passions in life. Touching the pages, of a book, looking at the text. The smell of paper.
The design of this library is the same as Curtin university here in Miri.
Ever since the arrival of Curtin, the city has seen a huge spike of graduates. For those who can't afford to pay can always apply for government loans which have low interest.

These pillars are tall, a couple of storeys high. Fully air conditioned. Free cold air. The main library is located on the second floor.
On display at the moment are traditional handmade craft by the locals. These are Sarawakian crafts. Usually handmade bead by bead, straw by straw.
I would definitely love receiving some of these as gifts.
My wife and I were here with our niece. We wanted to get her exposed to books early on in her life instead of looking at phone screens.
In Sarawak, plants are seen everywhere. Tropical climate.

Lots of good books to choose from to read. The membership is free and you can borrow up to ten books at once. I usually borrow investment and writing related books. 95% of the books here are English books.

Usually students study here for their exams. Air conditioned and quiet.
The computers
Everyone who needs to use the computers can get to use them by getting the password from the receptionist.

Some hang out here just to read magazines and have a place to hang out.
The kids corner
We were there on Monday so not many kids were here. So the whole place was reserved for me, my wife and I.
Baby Avery reading a book. She is heading to 3 very soon and has mastered a handful of English phrases. I try to talk to her in English as often as I can. I don't encourage parents to talk to their babies in baby language. It is better to get them to understand words early in their life. This is from my experience teaching kids. From the age of 1 to 9, that is the window of opportunity when they learn the most.
