I Just Applied to the Yenching Global Symposium 2023

Yesterday, I saw a promoted tweet while browsing Twitter: "Scholarships to Visit China - Yenching Global Symposium 2023".

I very much like free stuff, so I clicked on the link. One thing lead to another, and I found out that the Yenching Academy of Peking University has an yearly symposium in which the global youth (under 30 years old), regardless of their field of study or degree level, can participate in order to talk about the problems of the world (sustaintaibility, economic development, technology) and how China can collaborate with the world to tackle these issues.

This Conference is also fully funded through scholarships, which means they'll cover all expenses for the attendees, including air travel, accommodation and food expenses.

I definitely wasn't ready to write FOUR essays regarding China and its position in the world, but hey, I wouldn't let this opportunity pass. I kicked the can down the road regarding my job today, and spent the whole morning writing my essays and my application to the scholarship. All in all, the whole thing ended up being pretty acceptable: I honestly don't know the level of the essays that applicants for this type of scholarship usually write, but mine were definitely not bad.

Fortunately, I had a great Professor of International Law that's a China Specialist (he's lived in Shanghai for several years and was a Professor in a prestigious university there), so I had lots of ideas to put in my essays.

In early March I'll have the answer if I was accepted to the Scholarship. I'm definitely NOT confident at all, as it was something I did very quickly and at short notice.

But hey, a free trip to China would be pretty rad, wouldn't it? :D
