We all heard and are aware of the sharp decline in Bitcoin last month, but what not everyone knows is why this happened, the reason is something called market regulation and the law of supply and demand. These are terms used in the world of finance and economics, so for some it may be difficult to understand. If so, continue reading and I will talk about it in a simple and easy to understand way for everyone.

I should clarify that I am not an expert by any means, I am just an enthusiast of the subject who has done some research over time and I have compiled this information to simplify it and share it.

¿QUÉ ES LA REGULACIÓN DE MERCADO?

WHAT IS MARKET REGULATION?

Well, I did my research and read about it and almost all the sites I visited said the same thing but using fancy words that are unnecessary to understand the concept. A market regulation is a measure that is taken to keep everything under control, that is to say that the prices and the quantity of products correspond to the availability and need of the same. This is usually done by a governmental body, except in the case of the United Kingdom. And if you ask yourself, but how can anyone regulate a decentralized market such as Bitcoin or other cryptos? Well, they are very bold if they have asked themselves this question and the answer is simple, there is no entity as such that decides that the Bitcoin should go up or down in price, but it is decided by a majority, as a kind of democracy, but this is not decided by a process as complicated as a vote. It is something simpler, if many people want Bitcoins, it will raise its price, if they don't want it or stop accepting it, its price will go down. This is the law of supply and demand and it is what governs the world of crypto-assets. I think I have simplified it quite a lot, although it is not very complicated, if it is not clear at all later I will give a simpler example to understand. Now what many people who don't know what happened are asking themselves

WHY DID BITCOIN FALL SO MUCH?

This is due to more than one cause but it can all be summarized in the two laws I mentioned before, the law of market regulation and the law of supply and demand. Don't worry, I will explain it in detail and in a simple way. There are two names of great weight and importance in the reason for the fall of Bitcoin which are China, the Asian giant and Elon Musk, owner and founder of Tesla. China is the biggest backer of Bitcoin since in the Asian giant was traded and traded a lot with this asset, until 2019 when it was totally banned in Beijing and many physical stores across the nation refused to accept it to protect themselves from the new laws against it. That hard hit had its repercussion back then and after another law banning the mining of it made its value drop again in February this year, but all was not lost, those who still had in their possession some Bitcoins could make online purchases with them. That was until last month where China refused and totally banned cryptocurrency transactions throughout the country, and if that was not enough Elon Musk via Twitter expressed his dissatisfaction with cryptocurrencies due to the environmental pollution caused by mining them. Subsequently the company Tesla said through the same social network that they would no longer accept cryptocurrencies as a method of payment, all this adding to the fact that the Central Bank of Europe also expressed its distrust towards the Bitcoin since according to them "it is very speculative". These statements have echoed in the confidence of cryptocurrency investors and due to this the Bitcoin suffered a 20% drop in its price on May 15 compared to the price it maintained the previous month.

EJEMPLO DIDÁCTICO

DIDACTIC EXAMPLE

Supposing you still have doubts about how the above mentioned laws work I bring you an example: Suppose you have a business where you sell empanadas, and your empanadas are at the price that are the rest of the empanadas that let's assume is $1, but your empanadas are too tasty and every day there are huge lines of people who want to buy your empanadas, due to high demand (number of people who want to buy) and low supply (Your ability to make empanadas as they are demanded) you decide to increase the price of them to hire helpers, improve the premises and restock supplies. Word of your empanadas spreads and more and more people want your empanadas, so much so that some are willing to pay more than the price you have set. And then someone offers even more and because they are paying more you give them priority, the rest of the people find out about this and want to do the same, but then a person comes to buy some empanadas at the price they had initially and you can not do it, because it would not be fair to others and you may have losses. The price of your empanadas has risen enormously due to the great demand. But one day something happens and a third of your customers no longer want your pies, they do not come and also express some dissatisfaction that reaches the ears of other customers, some will ignore, but others do not, and so your number of customers (demand.) Decreases and now you have too many pies (supply.) So to not have so many losses must lower the price of your pies so you can sell them all and not be so affected. And this is how the law of market regulation and the law of supply and demand work.
