In this opportunity I bring the importance of having plants at home as part of the decoration, which is a very good idea because it gives a touch of life and freshness to every corner of the house, in addition to purifying the air we breathe. However, you should know that in addition to decorative, there are herbs that have valuable properties both medicinal and culinary.
Here I show plants that besides being very useful are easy to maintain.
Aloe
Also called aloe vera, it is easy to maintain and has multiple benefits. Its anti-inflammatory properties help soothe muscle aches and reduce swelling from blows or insect bites. In juice controls gastritis or colitis and gel is used to decongest the airways. For example, if you have a cough, you can spread it on your chest and back, put a flannel or newspaper over these areas and go to sleep. You will feel like new.
Thyme
It is a small shrub widely used in meals, but as part of medicinal herbs, it is known for its strong antiseptic nature. It is one of the most effective in gastrointestinal disorders.
Basil
This aromatic and easy-to-preserve plant is widely used in the kitchen. Its leaves are included in pizzas, pastas, salads, soups and fish. In health issues, basil serves against nausea, vomiting, intestinal cramps and parasites. Its properties serve to calm the nerves, improve the immune system and combat acne.
Mint
Its characteristic and fresh smell helps fight bad breath and clear the airways. If consumed in tea, it is useful for those suffering from stomach inflammation or irritation, colic or gas. In oil it serves to reduce rheumatic pains and is also useful in the kitchen, as it gives a touch of freshness to salads, main dishes, desserts and even drinks. It is enriched with vitamins A and C and also contains iron and manganese.
Chamomile
It is consumed mainly as an infusion to cure stomach pains and indigestion, as its compounds help to regenerate the gastric mucosa. On the other hand, it reduces discomfort during menstruation and serves for slight infections in the eyes, moisturizing the nose and throat and, if that was not enough, its relaxing properties help us when we are sad or tense.
Rosemary
Due to its components, the essence of this plant reduces stress and anxiety, calms migraines, improves blood circulation and promotes hair growth. In the kitchen, it serves to flavor different dishes; and as a tea, helps as an analgesic, facilitates the digestion of fats and helps clean the gallbladder.
Peppermint
It is one of the most used plants. Tea can be taken to eliminate stomach swelling, indigestion, dizziness and nausea. Either in essence or through its leaves, the peppermint heals headaches, it is useful against burns, insect bites and skin irritation. It is also used to prepare drinks and it is an excellent condiment (try putting a little in a chicken broth and you will see how it improves the flavor noticeably).
Rue
Its use in excess can be harmful, but in small doses and as a tea it works as a kind of sedative, ideal to combat stress, anxiety and insomnia. Similarly, it helps in some stomach pains and colic and is very good to treat migraine.
Lavender
This aromatic plant has multiple benefits, although the most common are related to the nervous system. Its aroma helps reduce levels of stress, anxiety and insomnia and its properties mitigate headaches and muscle pain.
Oregano
It is a medicinal and aromatic plant with a very pleasant and characteristic smell easily recognizable when used in recipes.
For medicinal purposes, the oregano leaves are used, which are oval, petiolate and covered with hairs. We can use the oregano internally preparing it in infusion and tincture and externally applying the infusion locally, the essence oil of oregano diluted in a base oil is used for massages or also in water the infused oil of oregano to make baths.
Undoubtedly there are innumerable medicinal herbs that we can grow to have at hand a solution to mild problems or complex diseases.
