BioShock is a first-person shooter video game, with role-playing customizations, stealth gameplay elements and bits of survival horror, developed by Irrational Games, released in 2007 for the Windows operating system and the Xbox 360 console.
A version for the PlayStation 3, developed by 2K Marin, was subsequently released in 2008, as well as a version for Mac OS X, in 2009.3
It was designed and engineered by Ken Levine. A sequel, BioShock 2, was released in 2010,13and a third part, BioShock Infinite, was released 2013 compatible with Linux thanks to Steam,
In “Bioshock,” players assume the role of Jack, a plane crash survivor who is pulled deep into the ocean, into the city of Rupture and finds himself in the middle of a conflict between warring factions and genetically modified beings known as “splicers.”
As Jack explores the dark corridors and ruins of Rapture, he uncovers the sinister secrets behind the city and confronts its deranged inhabitants, including the iconic villain Andrew Ryan, the visionary behind the creation of the underwater utopia.
While exploring Rapture, the player collects money which can be used in different vending machines to obtain ammunition, health, and additional equipment.
Weapons can be upgraded at “Weapon Upgrade Terminals”, found at different points in the city, which allow the player to apply an upgrade per use, and then deactivate.
With an oppressive atmosphere, an immersive narrative and an innovative gameplay system that allows players to modify their own genetic abilities, “Bioshock” offers an immersive and thrilling gaming experience that challenges the player's morality and perception.

BioShock draws its plot inspiration from several dystopian novels read by Ken Levine, including George Orwell's 1984 , Logan's Run by William F. Nolan, and the controversial novel The Atlas Rebellion, by writer Ayn Rand, published in the United States in 1957.
