I often think about my father a lot and
sometimes feel very alone. He was the
last male mentor l had to talk to in the family.
My uncle had passed away several years
earlier.
He was his own person and would not be swayed by others
views personal or political. He would walk the walk not
talk the talk. Which a lot of people do today. Say one
thing then change it to another.
Son action speaks louder than words, don’t make verbal
promises you can’t keep. You will only be taken seriously
by your actions. Anybody can talk. We’re his words of
wisdom.
Stand up for what you feel is right! Never let anyone or
anything intimidate you. You’re my son who has
special talents. Sometimes l miss hearing his words
and the laughter we often shared.
Dad there are so many things you told me about how to look at life
with a clear mind not being influenced by skin color
or ethnic background. A ass is a ass no matter where
they come from he would say.
Don’t expect the world to give you something because you’re
breathing or because the color of your skin. You want something, go
get it! Leave that the worlds got it in for me because of my
skin color excuse for someone else.
You’re not a charity case.
When he saw me reading books, the newspaper, watching television
and listening to what was going on in the world. He would smile proudly.
As if to say now if people ask your opinion about world issues you
have something to say. Thank you father for all
you taught me. I just wish l could l sit and talk to you about the blessings
that are happening in my life. But l guess you already know that, you’re
in heaven.
