Anyone who wishes to improve on his or her writing skills must constantly work towards acquiring an unlimited range if vocabulary.
There are ways though which a writer can improve upon his writing
Firstly,
Reading good novels,essay, journals, newspapers, periodicals and megazine. This will enable you come across unfamiliar words and expressions.
Avoid pornographic novels and megazine,illusive trillers and some materials, they are mostly written in bad English.
Use a good dictornary to know the right spelling pronunciation, parts if speech and meaning of words.
Furthermore, write as often as possible, writing is essentially a practical activity .No writer can therefore improve by reading alone.
so,in other to write well we should see essay writing as a three stage activity;
prewriting,
writing and,
Rewriting.
Prewriting is a preparatory stage in essay writing and it comes with different other stages which are:
Choosing a Topic: A topic should not be selected because it sounds fashionable. A writer should choose a familiar topic,the one he or she knows about. A writers essay would certainly be uninteresting if he has nothing new to tell his reader. A writer should choose a topic he can handle and manipulate effectively .
Adopting or Forming a point of view; once the writing has chosen a topic, the next step should will be deciding on what to say about a topic and what not to say.this essentially determines the angle from which the writer will approach the topic or title
Searching For Available Facts: This is a very important aspect in writing that involves research and investigation. At this point , no information on the topic should be neglected. The writer should ask himself questions that begin with what,why, when,how etc inorder to generate new ideas. The writer must make effort to scramble down the ideas as they occur to him.
Arranging The Facts:The writer is concerned with arrangements of facts discovered at the previous stage. Additionally, the writer is expected to weed out facts which may not be relevant to what he would have to write.
Draw up an Outline; an outline gives a brief description of the main facts or point involved in a topic or something. It is a skeletal depiction of the essay itself. It is the direct result of all the steps discussed above,put together,once the outline is written, writing the entire essay becomes relatively easy. There are two types of outline, topic and sentence outline. Topic outline is normally written either in words or phrase. On the other hand, sentence outline are usually written in sentence.
Then lastly, Development of your essay, this is where you build your essay the way you want it. Though essay topics are divided into : Expository, Narrative, Descriptive and argumentative essay.
Expository is usually written to explain a thing,a process or an idea in an orderly manner. Narrative is an account of an event, incident or activity.
All of them has their methods and pattern of writing.
