What is your elastic limit? Is there a wall in your life? one where, when pushed and you're up against, you turn around, extract your claws, and bare your fangs. That place that's curtained off, and no one is supposed to cross. You call them boundaries, I like to call them, the yellow tape. Well, everyone should have one.
Personal boundaries are guidelines, rules or limits that a person creates to identify reasonable, safe and permissible ways for other people to behave towards them and how they will respond when someone passes those limits. They are built out of a mix of conclusions, beliefs, opinions, attitudes, past experiences and social learning.
Having personal boundaries give you a sense of self. People who do not have one tend to take on other people's thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and values rather than, have their own. Personal boundaries give you the ability to decide how you want to be treated by other people, you'll ward off bullies. You're able to tell people what you can or can't tolerate. You'll be able to leave a relationship, when it isn't serving you good and also make life decisions that serve and support you.
When you have these boundaries, you'll feel empowered, more connected with yourself and totally in control of your life. You'll be able to live for yourself, rather than through the desire to please others.
Once you have established strong, clear boundaries, people will give you more respect. This means you can be yourself to a greater extent, asking for what you really want and need without fear of judgment. Emotional manipulators will back off and in their place sustainable, loving relationships will thrive.
