Greetings.

This is the first time I post here, it seemed interesting to do so... This is also the first time I use the ecency@ecency app to post.

I have chosen to write a short story from scratch, without any planning or pre-determination of either topic, style or length. Some kind of spontaneous combustion of inspirartion...

Let us commence...

"The massive twin oak doors were still, before suddenly bursting open. Two orderlies slowly proceeded forward, one on each side of the narrow hallway, dragging between them an apparently unconscious middle-aged man, who had definitely been in better shape, from the looks of his torn and tattered clothes. A large gash was plainly visible on his brow from which a considerable amount of blood had spurt, covering most of the man's eyes and face. As much as the wound looked deep, it seemed not to be bleeding anymore, judging from the fact that there were no drips on the floor, as he was being dragged down the corridor.

The long hallway was dimly lit. An overhead single row of fluorescent lights was lining the ceiling, flickering at times, as if they were on the brink of blacking out. Some were actually burned out, leaving patches of partial darkness between them, confering an irregular checkered appearance to the floor, even though it was made out of even tiles.
Casting flashing tall shadows, the uneven duo kept on pulling their unaware guest toward destination.

The unconscious man was of large build and, after a while, it became obvious that one of the orderlies was struggling to keep on supporting his weight as they were carrying him. He unexpectedly stopped in his tracks, almost dropping the man to the ground, before managing to steady his grip and regain balance. His colleague shouted:
-- Damn, Georgie, what the hell are you doing?!!
-- This is one heavy sonofabitch! He replied. I'm not sure I can carry him much longer.
-- I know he's huge, Georgie boy. Hang on, we're almost there!
-- Don't pretend you're not having a tough time carrying him, Tony. Georgie said. You only are too proud to admit it!
-- Nothing to do with pride. Tony said. I just don't like to whine about it like you do, boy! I shut up and get the job done.
-- Sure you do. Georgie scoffed.

As they were reaching the bottom of the hall, the large man began to regain consciousness, catching them off-guard as he let out a loud moan.
-- Shit, Tony, he's waking up! Georgie yelled. Code white! Code white! He screamed, as if hoping to attract the attention of the personnel lying on the other side of the doors the hallway was leading them to.
-- Calm down, boy. Tony said. He's cuffed, remember? I understand you're new at this, but there's no use in panicking. He added, as he tightened his grip on the man's shoulder.
-- Sorry man. Georgie said. He startled me.
As he finished his sentence, the dual doors opened ahead, granting them access to the room. Having been alerted by Georgie's screams, the medical team came to meet them as they entered.

-- It seems the patient is emerging from stupor. The woman said.
-- Indeed. Replied Tony. Slowlier than we thought at first, however. He added. He seems to have drifted back to black.
-- Forgive my outburst, Doctor Weavely. Georgie said. I panicked. I never expected him to moan like this. I thought he was sedated.
-- No need to worry. She said. I understand. Such a thing can be unsettling to someone without prior experience, young man. You did well. Now, please take him to the electro-bed and strap him up. She added.
-- Yes, m'aam. Tony said. Right away. Come on, Georgie boy, let's get this monster ready!
-- You got it, boss. He replied, as they proceeded further.

Surprisingly, before they could reach the electro-bed, the escorted man began to glow intensely, as if he was himself a lightbulb being flicked on. As the glow intensified, Tony and Georgie, baffled with disbelief, quickly let go of him and backed off, fearful for their safety. Instead of dropping to the ground, he started to float in mid air, slowly rising to the ceiling, as if he was an helium baloon. All of a sudden, the man opened his eyes, his stare fixated on the two orderlies as they fled. The glowing kept getting even more intense, soon joined by a deafening sound that reminded them of the noise a kettle makes when water is boiling. Then, before they could do anything, the man detonated in a loud burst of decimating energy as powerful as eleven simultaneous thermonuclear explosions, wiping everything and everyone in its wake...

-- Fuck! Georgie exclaimed. We failed again. I hate this goddamn game!
-- I told you we shouldn't have played the role of the orderlies this time. Tony said. It's much easier if you select the air plane pilots or the truck drivers. Especially for a newb like you, Georgie boy!
-- Yeah, right. Georgie scoffed. Always blame the newbie."
