A gift is a present you give someone to express your affection, there are people who receive them with all the appreciation in the world and others who do not appreciate them.

This is a time when we reflect peace, love for others, time to share, to forgive and remember our loved ones who are no longer with us.

In particular I am a blessing, a gift from God to my parents, being their first daughter born on the same day that the child God was born, so I have always received many gifts, I remember in my childhood when my uncles came to the house at Christmas they placed all the children in line to give a gift to each one.

There was one year they couldn't come, our faces were a little off because we didn't have presents. My mother called us to bed to go to sleep because it was late. I lay in my bed with the sweet hope that they would call me to give me my present, I was a very deep sleeper. In the middle of my sleep I felt a discomfort in my feet that did not let me be calm, when I woke up I saw a little box lined with wrapping paper I was immediately excited I opened it, it was a beautiful doll with a pink dress, her hair looked like gold, I called her Isabela. All the gifts I have received in my life I remember with great affection.

There was a year that as a family we had a very hard economic situation, my father was unemployed, my mother was the only one who worked, however she decorated the house very beautifully with ornaments that she had saved, we placed the manger and the Christmas tree. On the 24th we went to dinner at my grandmother's house because all my uncles and cousins were there, we had a great time, they sang birthdays to me, we played games, sang Christmas carols and ate lots of sweets.

At the end of the sharing we went back to our house. I arrived very tired, I took off my clothes, put on my pajamas and went to sleep, when I was falling asleep I felt a scream "JOJOJO", I said "Santa Claus is coming", I jumped out of my bed and ran to the living room but I didn't see anyone. When I approached the manger I saw a doll, a robot from a cartoon called Mazinger Z, 2 plastic cars and a small pink wallet with pink, green, gold and silver interspersed lines, I took it in my hands, I opened it, inside it had some heart shaped earrings and a letter that said "This is your gift".

I was so excited that at the same moment I put on the earrings, I went out shouting all over the house and Baby Jesus arrived. My father was in the kitchen and laughed when he saw me running around full of happiness, my little brothers woke up, when they saw the gifts they started to play because they were so impressed that we lost sleep and played until dawn.

As the years went by, our uncles and aunts were no longer with us because they left this earthly world. We grew up, became men and women, formed our families. In December we got into a routine, every 24th we would gather at mom and dad's house, celebrate my birthday, have dinner at the table and then do a gift exchange between my brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, my husband and daughters, mom and dad.

It has been 19 months since my father is no longer physically with us, but I still have that spirit of giving a small gift to my loved ones and remembering that pink bag that contained those earrings my father gave me for Christmas.
