Iligan City is home to not just one but to more than 20 majestic waterfalls in the Philippines such as Tinago Falls and Maria Cristina Falls to name a few. The most accessible of them all though as it is located merely 500 meters from the highway is the Mimbalot Falls. You can access the falls by riding a Buru-un liner from the city proper for a fare of around 13 pesos. Ask the driver to drop you at Miguel Canoy Memorial School wherein you have the options to walk the path going to the falls or ride a habal habal if you don't wish to walk.
The area at the buttom of the falls can be dangerous if you're not careful because of the huge rocks and of the strong current. It is not advisable to swim at this area. Also if you want to take a dive be sure to know the depth of the water first as large rocks can be found anywhere.
The place is a perfect place to spend quality time with your loved ones as you enjoy the beauty of nature. The place offers unique cottages, though we didn't get to take pictures of it. You can choose to have your own private pool-like cottage wherein you can dine while having a bath. You have to visit the area to see it yourself. Below the trail where the current is not strong are concrete tables and benches where you get to dine while the water gently touches feet. Just be very careful though as the base is very slippery.
Swimming pools are also available so kids can safely enjoy the water. Make sure to keep an eye on your kids as there are no lifeguards in the area and kids being the hyper as they are, likely to get fall or slip to the water.
It is important to bring your own provisions though so won't get hungry. There are no restaurants in the area though there is one little store with just a few snacks, that is if you're lucky to have it open when you visit.
Below are pictures of me and my baby with my long-time friend, the one on the right side. We were meeting our other long lost friend who's yet to come with her family from the neighboring city. We were invited to joined them to celebrate the birthday of our friend's son.
The place is actually nice as you can see on our background, though it still needs a bit improvements here and there to attract more tourists.
Locals often bathe and wash their clothes in the area. It is actually their favorite place to wash clothes.
If you need some place to relax and a quite place to unite with nature then this is the perfect place. All you can hear is the splashing of water and birds singing.
Beside the falls, you can enjoy zip line rides and cable cars overviewing the falls and several other water activities as Mimbalot Falls is part of Iligan Paradise Resort and Eco Park. Tubing and kayaking are also available in the resort so as horse riding for the kids to enjoy. The resort also offers children’s playground where they can enjoy to their heart's content as they try monkey bars, slide, swing and even try the Indiana Jones.
A fun fact: Mimbalot Falls is actually of the same river as Tinago Falls wherein both came from Lake Lanao in Lanao del Sur.
That's all for now. Until next time! Let's keep steemin'!
