Hello everyone! I'm Lorentm, digital artist, and I'm back with renewed energy after a few days off. Participating in the weekly Splinterlands art contests is always an exciting experience, but I must admit that after so many consecutive posts, I was feeling a bit exhausted. Fortunately, this little break has recharged me completely, and I'm excited to share with you my latest creation.
This time, I decided to give my touch to the imposing CRUSTACEAN KING, one of the most iconic characters of Splinterlands. My version reimagines him in an anime style, with a slightly humanized appearance, but keeping the majesty that characterizes him. Instead of just replicating his original design, I wanted to give him a new life, adding details that would make him stand out.
This sea king sports a crown worthy of his status, and his white skin cape with black spots contrasts beautifully with his bright red exoskeleton, reflecting his strength and crustacean nature. In addition, I added green tentacles emerging from his mouth, evoking seaweed, as if nature itself were merging with him. The result is a powerful figure, robust and full of details, which projects authority while remaining visually attractive.
The background I chose accompanies his regal bearing with a warm atmosphere of yellow tones, suggesting sunlight filtering through the water and soft waves that are barely hinted at. This contrast between the warm background and the cool tones of his body, which includes purple hues, gives the character a visual depth that enhances his figure and makes him the center of attention.
What I enjoyed most about this project was playing with textures and shading details, using sharp lines and dynamic shading to capture the essence of the CRUSTACEAN KING, giving him that anime aesthetic that I love so much. The result is a character that conveys power, royalty and, at the same time, a touch of mystery, as if he rules the depths with undisputed authority.

隆Hola a todos! Soy Lorentm, artista digital, y estoy de vuelta con energ铆a renovada tras unos d铆as de descanso. Participar en los concursos semanales de arte de Splinterlands es siempre una experiencia emocionante, pero debo admitir que despu茅s de tantas publicaciones consecutivas, me sent铆a algo agotada. Afortunadamente, este peque帽o receso me ha recargado por completo, y estoy emocionada de compartir con ustedes mi m谩s reciente creaci贸n.
En esta ocasi贸n, decid铆 darle mi toque al imponente CRUSTACEAN KING, uno de los personajes m谩s ic贸nicos de Splinterlands. Mi versi贸n lo reimagina en un estilo anime, con una apariencia ligeramente humanizada, pero manteniendo la majestuosidad que lo caracteriza. En lugar de solo replicar su dise帽o original, quise darle una nueva vida, agregando detalles que lo hicieran destacar.
Este rey marino luce una corona digna de su estatus, y su capa de piel blanca con manchas negras contrasta maravillosamente con su exoesqueleto rojo brillante, que refleja su fortaleza y naturaleza crust谩cea. Adem谩s, le a帽ad铆 unos tent谩culos verdes que emergen de su boca, evocando algas marinas, como si la naturaleza misma se fusionara con 茅l. El resultado es una figura poderosa, robusta y llena de detalles, que proyecta autoridad sin dejar de ser visualmente atractiva.
El fondo que eleg铆 acompa帽a su porte regio con una atm贸sfera c谩lida de tonos amarillos, que sugiere la luz del sol filtr谩ndose a trav茅s del agua y unas olas suaves que apenas se insin煤an. Este contraste entre el fondo c谩lido y los tonos fr铆os de su cuerpo, que incluye matices p煤rpuras, le da al personaje una profundidad visual que realza su figura y lo convierte en el centro de atenci贸n.
Lo que m谩s disfrut茅 de este proyecto fue jugar con las texturas y los detalles del sombreado, utilizando l铆neas n铆tidas y un sombreado din谩mico para capturar la esencia del CRUSTACEAN KING, d谩ndole esa est茅tica del anime que tanto me gusta. El resultado es un personaje que transmite poder, realeza y, al mismo tiempo, un toque de misterio, como si gobernara las profundidades con autoridad indiscutible.

The intelligent Crustaceans of 螞ZM螞R脡 are the result of ancient genetic experiments. They became too smart to be contained, escaped from their bondage and developed their own city on the edge of the Dark Water. Led by the Crustacean King, they farm the vast kelp fields of 螞ZM螞R脡.

Se volvieron demasiado inteligentes para ser contenidos, escaparon de su esclavitud y desarrollaron su propia ciudad al borde del Agua Oscura. Liderados por el Rey Crust谩ceo, cultivan los vastos campos de algas de 螞ZM螞R脡.
The creation of this CRUSTACEAN KING fan art began, as always, with the initial sketch. At this stage, my main focus was to capture the character's essence and posture, making sure that his imposing presence was well represented in the overall silhouette. I used light, quick strokes to explore the proportions, taking care that his royal crown, cape and crustacean exoskeleton felt balanced. I also took time to sketch the green tentacles coming out of his mouth, trying to make them look like a natural extension of his anatomy.
With the sketch defined, I moved on to the outlining phase, where everything began to take shape. Here, the strokes were more confident and precise, highlighting the contours of the character and adding details such as the segmentations in his limbs and the folds of the cape. It was key to keep the lines fluid and dynamic to convey that mix between organic and regal, characteristic of this character. Throughout the outline, I concentrated on the textures of the chitinous exoskeleton, so that it would look solid and resistant, while the tentacles should have a soft and somewhat viscous appearance.
When it was time for coloring, I started by applying the base tones. The exoskeleton was given a vibrant red to reflect its powerful, marine nature. For the tentacles, I opted for a deep green, contrasting effectively with the rest of the palette. The cape was colored in white with black spots to give it a more regal and distinctive look, highlighting its position of power. I paid attention to details in the crown and small color variations in the limbs to make them visually interesting and rich in nuance.
Next, came one of my favorite parts: applying shadows. This step allowed me to give volume and depth to each element. I used soft, diffuse shadows on the more rounded areas, such as the tentacles and abdomen, while on the harder, more angular parts of the exoskeleton the shadows were more defined and pronounced. I focused on how the background light, warm and coming from the sun, influenced the direction of the shadows, which helped to give realism to the scene. The areas where the light hits directly, such as the upper body and crown, were kept lighter, contrasting with the deep shadows on the limbs and under the cape.
Finally, to give that touch of life and realism to the CRUSTACEAN KING, I applied the shimmers. This detail is essential to make the character really stand out and feel tangible. On the exoskeleton, the glitters were strategically placed to highlight the hard and shiny texture, as if the light was reflecting off the wet surface of a marine crustacean. On the tentacles, the glitter is softer, giving them a more organic and slightly wet look. In addition, I added a subtle sparkle to the crown and golden details, accentuating its royal status and power.
Each stage of this process allowed me to give the CRUSTACEAN KING his unique personality, combining elements of the original with my personal vision, making this anime interpretation capture the essence of the character in a fresh and dynamic way.
La creaci贸n de este fan art del CRUSTACEAN KING comenz贸, como siempre, con el boceto inicial. En esta etapa, mi principal enfoque fue captar la esencia y postura del personaje, asegur谩ndome de que su presencia imponente quedara bien representada en la silueta general. Us茅 trazos ligeros y r谩pidos para explorar las proporciones, cuidando que su corona real, capa y exoesqueleto crust谩ceo se sintieran equilibrados. Tambi茅n me tom茅 tiempo para esbozar los tent谩culos verdes que salen de su boca, buscando que parecieran una extensi贸n natural de su anatom铆a.
Con el boceto definido, pas茅 a la fase de delineado, donde todo empez贸 a tomar forma. Aqu铆, los trazos fueron m谩s seguros y precisos, destacando los contornos del personaje y a帽adiendo detalles como las segmentaciones en sus extremidades y los pliegues de la capa. Fue clave mantener las l铆neas fluidas y din谩micas para transmitir esa mezcla entre lo org谩nico y lo regio, caracter铆stica de este personaje. A lo largo del delineado, me concentr茅 en las texturas del exoesqueleto quitinoso, para que luciera s贸lido y resistente, mientras que los tent谩culos deb铆an tener un aspecto suave y algo viscoso.
Llegado el momento del coloreado, comenc茅 por aplicar los tonos base. El exoesqueleto recibi贸 un vibrante rojo que reflejara su naturaleza marina y poderosa. Para los tent谩culos, opt茅 por un verde profundo, contrastando de manera efectiva con el resto de la paleta. La capa fue coloreada en blanco con manchas negras para darle un aire m谩s regio y distintivo, que resaltara su posici贸n de poder. Prest茅 atenci贸n a los detalles en la corona y las peque帽as variaciones de color en las extremidades para hacerlas visualmente interesantes y ricas en matices.
Luego, lleg贸 una de mis partes favoritas: aplicar sombras. Este paso me permiti贸 dar volumen y profundidad a cada elemento. Us茅 sombras suaves y difusas en las 谩reas m谩s redondeadas, como los tent谩culos y el abdomen, mientras que en las partes m谩s duras y angulosas del exoesqueleto las sombras fueron m谩s definidas y marcadas. Me enfoqu茅 en c贸mo la luz del fondo, c谩lida y proveniente del sol, influ铆a en la direcci贸n de las sombras, lo que ayud贸 a darle realismo a la escena. Las zonas en las que la luz golpea directamente, como la parte superior del cuerpo y la corona, se mantuvieron m谩s claras, contrastando con las sombras profundas de las extremidades y bajo la capa.
Finalmente, para darle ese toque de vida y realismo al CRUSTACEAN KING, apliqu茅 los brillos. Este detalle es esencial para hacer que el personaje realmente resalte y se sienta tangible. En el exoesqueleto, los brillos fueron colocados estrat茅gicamente para destacar la textura dura y brillante, como si la luz se reflejara en la superficie h煤meda de un crust谩ceo marino. En los tent谩culos, el brillo es m谩s suave, d谩ndoles una apariencia m谩s org谩nica y ligeramente h煤meda. Adem谩s, agregu茅 un sutil destello en la corona y en los detalles dorados, acentuando su estatus real y su poder.
Cada etapa de este proceso me permiti贸 darle al CRUSTACEAN KING su personalidad 煤nica, combinando elementos del original con mi visi贸n personal, logrando que esta interpretaci贸n anime capturara la esencia del personaje de una forma fresca y din谩mica.
