We learned about Guild Brawls in one of the previous episodes of Splinterlands Basics, and now we are about to explore Splinterlands Tournaments and these special type of Player vs. Player events organized by different entities.
We'll Discuss the Event page, Tournament requirements & rules, and much more. So, read through all the guidelines to get all the basic information required to join an event/tournament.
What is an Event
An event is a type of tournament in which players participate by paying an amount of tournament fee and battle against other assigned opponents. Each tournament event has a certain fee and a prize pool, players who achieve the best ranks get a hefty reward from the pool.
Event Page
Event page is the portal designed for organizing and joining different tournament events. The page is accessible by clicking on the "Colosseum" icon from the main menu as shown in the image.
Once clicked, you'll land on the Tournaments page and see additional information and interactive clickable items, look at the image below to learn more about page options.
- This is the amount of prizes in USD distributed to tournament winners and runners-up previously and next to it the prizes currently available in listed tournaments which players may earn.
- These are different types of filters to narrow down events to your liking and what information a player is looking for.
- To see tournaments having specific pack editions as a rule to participate or where you can use cards from these editions.
- This is a button to create a tournament event with your own rules and restrictions, creating an event costs 2000 DEC upfront fee.
- Here you can review type of the tournament, event schedule, and time required per round.
- This is the event information column, you can see the name of the event, the format of the tournament which can be Modern or Wild, and the Hive ID of the event organizer.
- This is the information about rules that will apply to that particular event.
- Detail of the prizes in USD and there is a mode of payment currency or item under the USD amount in which the prizes will be distributed to the winners.
- In the Entry column you'll see the required fee to participate in the tournament which can be either DEC or SPS, you'll also find players currently joined the event and a maximum number of participants can join, the infinity icon means unlimited participants.
- Clicking on the "VIEW" button will take you to the event page where you'll find more in-depth details about the event and you can also join the tournament from that page.
Types of Tournaments
There are 2 types of tournaments in Splinterlands, Single Elimination and Anytime, although the Anytime tournament also comes with Sit N' Go variant as well.
Single Elimination: The event starts at the scheduled time if the requirement for a minimum number of participants meets, otherwise the event will be canceled.
All participants will have to check in within 15 minutes of the tournament going live, those who can't check in will be disqualified. If a player loses a match he will be eliminated from the tournament round. Winners will proceed to the next round and fight each other, again anyone who loses a match will be eliminated.
Winners who make it to the final round will be determined by the number of wins in their bags.
Anytime: The event starts at the scheduled time if the requirement for a minimum number of participants meets, otherwise the event will be canceled.
There is no check-in required in this tournament, once started all participants must complete assigned arena matches within 24 hours. Another round starts to submit lineups against a new set of opponents. Players who failed to submit lineups will be considered surrendered battles.
Winners will be decided based on wins, draws, and losses each player has got in all rounds.
Sit N' Go: This is a more popular tournament type for small events in Splinterlands which starts based on the full number of participants joined instead of the scheduled time. Although, if there is a minimum number of participants reached then the event will start on the specified time.
This type of tournament does not require any check-in and can be set for both types of tournaments.
Tournament Rules and Restrictions
Tournament rules and restrictions are set by the organizers such as what edition of cards is allowed or which format tournament will be played. Some high-level tournaments require verified (KYC) users only, some tournaments need players to be in a certain league when joining and may require participants to have certain staked SPS or collection power. This all depends on the organizers' wish to set rules for the tournaments.
These requirements appear on the event page that can be accessed by clicking on the "View" button, main requirements appear on the tournament listing page.
Now, look at this tournament's general requirements first in the image shown below.
The restriction in this tournament is that it will be played in Modern format, while rules are Silver League and All Modern Cards are playable. But, when we enter the event page, we'll reveal more in-depth requirements for this tournament event.
Look at the above image, the details say that here we need 4723+ staked SPS to be qualified for this event, Power requirement is in green which means we meet this requirement.
Similarly, you should look for the details on the event page before entering the tournament, all events come with different rules and restrictions.
Joining a Tournament Event
Clicking on the "View" button will take you to the tournament details page,
now click on the "ENTER" button to confirm the "Entry Fee" pop-up message.
Approve the fee deduction / transfer through KeyChain or Hive Signer, we use KeyChain for this transaction.
Once your transaction is signed, you'll receive a registration confirmation message.
If you like to be reminded, you may add this event to any calendar of your choice from the drop-down menu.
Close the above window and you'll see "LEAVE" button, and on the listing page, the event will appear as Entered.
You can leave the tournament any time before the event starts and your fee will be refunded to your wallet.
When the tournament starts, you'll receive a notification inside Splinterlands.
Clicking on the "VIEW" button will take you to the Event page, from where you can see.
Since this is a Sit N' Go Anytime tournament, it won't need any check-in, all you have to do is submit lineups within 24 hours.
The tournament page now shows "Battles Remaining" to fight, who is your opponent, and the time until the event is going to end. Click on the "NEXT BATTLE" button and submit your lineup, if the opponent has already submitted his lineup, you'll see the battle starts immediately.

From the Arena tab, you can review your and other participants' event progress.
Round status will tell you about battles fought out of total battles.
Activity window gives information about different tournament activities performed by players such as winning a battle, submitting a lineup, etc.
The below image shows information about all the battles assigned to you. Notice the color of the player's ID, red means a defeat, green means a win, and white means the battle has not occurred or the opponent has yet to submit his lineup.
Prizes
There are two types of prizes 1 in-game (DEC, SPS, Packs) and customized prizes. Customized prizes are distributed manually by the organizer after the event ends, those can be other cryptocurrencies, physical items, or anything else.
When the event ends, the winners are selected based on their wins, loss, draws, and points earned.
If there is a tie between two players then there is a "Tie-Breaker" rule that comes into effect to determine the winner's position in the tournament. Following are the rules to decide on tying winners.
Winners will receive a notification about their prizes once the event ends.
