Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Battle Challenge! (Back to Basics)
I love the idea that the Weekly Battle Challenge changed instead of featuring a monster to represent a ruleset. It is so good to do something different than usual and I hope they will continually do this in the future. The best way would be to mix these challenges, so every week would be more interesting.
This week we need to show a ruleset, which is the Back to Basics and the way I used it to my advantage in the Battle I played. ๐
My only problem with this new system is that it is very difficult to do battles with the ruleset featured for the week challenge, because it is random what you are going to get and even if you have that ruleset you need to win it somehow, which is not always easy. ๐ณ
| Monsters lose all abilities. | |
| Back row monsters are safe from enemy's Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity attacks. The ruleset places importance on Magic and Ranged attacks as melee attacks loose their ability to hit outside of the first position. | Select monsters with high speed and choose a summoner that increases damage or defense against Magic or Ranged attacks. Lining up monsters in ascending order of their health is the way to go. |
The Back to Basics ruleset is one of the most blend ruleset of all and goes hand in hand with the Silenced Summoners. I say that, because none of the monsters has any ability, so it is important to use high Health mosnters with huge basic damages.
The other important aspect is that it is very important to choose the best available Summoner, because that would be a huge difference between the teams.
| Ruleset | Description |
|---|---|
| Briar Patch | All Monsters have the Thorns ability. |
| Up to Eleven | All Monsters have the Amplify ability. |
| Back to Basics | Monsters lose all abilities. |
The mana cap was 38 in my next battle, which is a decent amount to choose some big guys for my team to soak up the incoming damage. I have tried to use the best cheap damage dealers to deal as much damage as I can. Also it is good to use a high speed monster to the front to try to dodge some incoming damage. ๐
My lineup and the decision behind it!
Summoner
Thaddius Brood
I was expecting for my opponent to choose the Obsidian with +1 Magic damage to all of her creatures and that is why I have choosed Thaddius Brood to try to counter her, sadly that didn't work.
Thaddius Brood is my main Summoner when it comes to playing with the Death Splinter, because he is reducing the Magic attack and Health of all the enemy monsters by one, which is quite amazing for only 4 mana. The Magic attack type is the strongest attack form in this game, so it is very useful to remove one from my opponent monsters. ๐
Main Tank
Blinding Reflector
I have tried to use the Pelacor Deceiver as my main tank, because his cost is only 5 and he has 9 Health and quite good Speed. He couldn't do much in this game, because my opponent was much quicker, but at least I had an off-tank waiting behind him. ๐
Off-Tank
Cursed Windeku
Whenever I play in Gold League I hire at least a Level 5 Summoner in order to use the Level 5 Cursed Windeku, because this monster is quite an annoying one for my opponent. He has one of the two best abilities in the game, which is the Thorns and the self Heal ability. He had only the Thorns from the ruleset, so I was taking advantage his high Health to soak up as much damage as he can. ๐
Damage Dealer
Djinn Muirat
The Djinn Muirat is the perfect monster against any Magic attack team, because he has the Magic Reflect ability, which works like the Thorns ability damaging back some Magic damage to the attackers. Unfortunately I couldn't use his feature, but he has high Health and damage to survive as long as possible against my opponent. ๐
Damage Dealer
Magi Necrosi
The Magi Necrosi is an amazing damage dealer within the Death Splinter and his power is that he is quite cheap costing only 6 mana and damaging 3 as a Magic damage in every round.
He has Snipe and Camouflage on Level 1, which makes him as the last monster in the backline. In this battle no one has any ability, so I used him front of my Ranged attackers. ๐
Usually I rent him on Level 3 to get the extra +1 Magic damage, which is totally worth it.
Cheap Damage Dealer
Weirding Warrior
The Weirding Warrior cost only 2 mana, which is nice and he has +2 Ranged damage as long as he will hit his target. He doesn't have too much Health, but he doesn't need it at all for this fight. ๐
Cheap Damage Dealer
Soul Strangler
The Soul Strangler is a three mana cost Ranged attack creature and on Level 6 he will increase his attack damage to 4, which is surprisingly good (Unfortunately I only had a Level 4 for this fight.), but 3 damage is also nice. He doesn't have too much protection, but my opponent can't target him anyway thanks to the Back to Basics ruleset. ๐
I was in a very difficult position this week as I had only one fight with the Back to Basics ruleset, so I choosed the only one I played, but sadly the outcome was not the one I was hoping. Let's see what is went wrong in this one!
When I saw the ruleset of Back to Basics and the available Splinter I was thinking that my opponent might choose the Obsidian and a Magic attack team, because they can attack from any position and they are completely resistat against the Thorns abilities.
Unfortunately, he choosed Kelya who give +1 Armor and Speed to all of his friendly creatures. ๐ค My only chance was to kill his monsters as quick as possible, because the Ranged attack monster can not attack from the first position.
My opponent had a total of 15 damage per turn supported with high Speed against my tank who didn't have any chance to survive the first round. ๐
I could almost kill his Djinn Oshannus in the first round, but my monsters of course missed two times against him and sealing their own fate with that.
In the second round I finally managed to kill his Oshannus, but the third round started with almost all of his monsters, because they are much quicker than mines and killed my Muirat easily.
Sadly I lost this battle, because my opponent took a different Splinter than I was expected and his high Speed monsters attacked first killing my monsters before they could answer. ๐
