The first man you knew when you were born. The one to warns you about boys. The one that sustains and provide families needs. He owns the half por
tion of your mother’s heart. Who is this man?-
YOUR FATHER.

There are a lot of things that could describe a father and it depends on how he shows it to their children or spouses. Today I want to share who my father was.

He grew up from the mountains but then eventually as he married got a place of his own near town. He has brown eyes, fair skin, beautiful nose and strong muscles – he is handsome. Not that tall but enough to stand out and fight for his family. He’s a hardworking man – which he acquires from the discipline of his father. Our faith is being shaped properly because of him. He stands firm on his faith and so we are today. He became our father and mother at the same time when I was 1 year old when my mom left us to work abroad. I could not hear any complain from him on what happened to our family. I never see him cry (until I get married). I knew he misses my mom so badly but he doesn’t show it to me and my little brother. He cooks for us and even ties my hair! I’m his little Barbie girl. He would stay awake at night on time me and my brother were both sick. Eventually we got a helper so things were a little lighter than before.

Whenever he goes home from work he would always bring us some treat and he never missed to do that every time. He would take us to beautiful places – park, mountains, rivers, you name it. He shows us amazing things for a little children – how to become a survivor when you’re on a mountain trip. What fruits are edible, leaves that are itchy and little flies that could sting you to death! He is a carpenter, a hunter, a driver, an electrician, an engineer, a painter, a plumber, a climber, a preacher, a guitarist, a singer, a swimmer - I think he is superman! He can do everything.

As a little girl who grows with only a father in the house, I’m more of going out than staying at the house. He would always bring me to the mountains and together we explore different things. This causes me scars on my legs, face and arms which I always cried whenever he would take some medicinal leaves and put it on my scar. I would remember one time when we were on the mountain with my brother, we saw a lot of guava and we were so excited to pick each fruits on the branches the same height with ours. He would warn us that there are bees on the other side of the tree, we heard about that but we still rushed and make a challenge on who will get a lot of guava fruits. Then suddenly my face aches so with my brother. We rushed to him and cried a lot. He told us to listen carefully on his warning so that we will not get hurt.

Now that we already got jobs and could sustain a living on our own, he would still offer something from him that would help in this life – his teaching. He never ceases to remind us that life here on earth is temporary and so we should focus on things that are eternal.

Every day in my prayer I always say thanks to God for giving him to us to become our father. For the long years he has been apart from my mother, he never cheats and never allows temptation to ruin his family. For all those long years that our mother is not by our side, he never let us feel that our family is incomplete.

He is truly a hero for me. That is my father. Mr. Nante Magsipoc.
