I took this picture From the rooftop of a house with my iPhone. The “tower” you see in the foreground is what used to be the city’s official timekeeper. The Drum tower, with drums and bells beaten and rung to mark the times of the day. Originally built 1272, the tower was once the heart of the Mongol Capital of Dadu, as Beijing was then known.
