I had no idea. I mean gymnastics is not a thing that I talk about a great deal, but if I were to write a piece about physical education at my school, it would probably include the word 'gambol' to mean the thing that I've learned since to call a 'forward roll'. And of course I haven't actually done one in years, so I wouldn't come here and say "I've been practicing my gambolling today."
So there are words in my vocabulary that even now at the age of fifty-four and having lived outside of the West Midlands for most of my life, I'm still discovering are peculiar to the dialect I grew up immersed in.
