At this time of year, lavender comes into flower and of course the bees are just loving it.

Lavender is an easy plant to grow - a well drained soil and plenty of sunshine.

However, there are a few things to remember if you want your bushes to stay looking good.

Firstly, remove faded flowers on a regular basis in order to keep more flowers forming.
As the plants grow, trim them to keep a nice shape, but do not cut back severely as this can cause the plants to die back.
At the end of the season, you can do some pruning but start from the base and work upwards forming a wine glass shape and do not cut into thick older stems.

I never use fertilizers on my lavender - just good compost in the soil and as a mulch.

Use the flowers in cooking, pot pourrie and in the vase - sachets filled with flowers and placed under a pillow are said to help you sleep.
