Living in Cape Town we are truly blessed with the stunning landscapes that surround us.
No matter where one lives, there are mountains somewhere on the landscape - and of course our famous Table Mountain!
When I first moved here and was still finding my way around, I would stop and ask directions when I needed to go places and was told to always head towards the mountain and then I would not get lost.
This advice did not go down well with me as every where that I looked, there were mountains.
However, after some time I got to know the shape of the mountains that extended off our Table Mountain and then learnt to navigate my way around our beautiful Cape.
All these years later, I still am in awe of the beauty that surrounds me and just how it lifts one's mood just by looking at it.
There was a time many years ago when I lived in one of those flats that had no garden or back door - once you were inside, you were closed off from the rest of the world.
This is not a happy situation and after a while one gets very depressed.
If there is a balcony, one can fill it with pots and have a balcony garden - and believe me, this keeps one sane just to have some natural beauty close by.
We need this - and it has been proved that people that are deprived of surrounding beauty often become ill - and worse still, can commit suicide.
