When I first heard the word fossicking, I was intrigued.
It is used for people who scrounge around looking for things that they can get for free to reuse or to find a way of using the item or items - or to use in a more imaginative manner.
I love to see old things that have been found and given a new lease on life and a place of pride in the home.
I have quite a few in my home which I love as they are all part of a past history.
One of my favourites is an old victorian chimney pot that was saved when the house was demolished.
I took it home and proceeded to clean it up - I did this carefully as I did not want to take away the character of it.
After cleaning, I then put some wax polish on it and buffed it until it has a slight sheen to it.
My first thought was that it would make a nice umbrella stand, but then I decided to use a very old metal dish to place on the top and to use it as a fruit bowl.
Sometimes when there is no fruit in the house, I just leave it empty.
