The Cape has been in the grips of two severe cold fronts bringing heavy rains, gale force winds, snow, flooding - infact really miserable weather.
I was away from my place for a day during all of this and came back to leaks in the roof, flooding in by the front door due to strong wind, a pane of glass blown out in my kitchen area and as a result the kitchen counter flooded with water - oh, and let me not forget, no electricity!!!
I have mentioned before, that I do not like winter - and now I am reminded why!
Anyway, although it is still very cold and there is still more rain on the way, I hope it will not be as bad.
However, the one good thing that I see in the garden, is that all the leaves that I have been raking up and putting on to the garden are breaking down into what I call black gold.
What do I mean by this? - well, it is the composting of leaves - breaking them down into lovely rich leaf mould i.e. humus.
This humus is one of the best soil conditioners that you can get - full of nutrients and healthy microbes for the plants to take up with their roots.
So, even in the time of winter, nature is quietly working for us so that the plants will have a great start in spring.
